The news item clearly stated that he would not have contact with people (presumably meaning "the public") in his new unit.

As for "why the excuses", why the rush to euthanize a fully-grown, 7-year-old dog based on two bite incidents if he's never exhibited such behaviors previously? I realize that it's probably a minority viewpoint, but I will always be opposed to automatic assumptions that a dog is too dangerous to be allowed to live the first time he bites someone.

GSDs are not dogs for careless, inattentive owners or those who are unfamiliar with the breed. If they aren't well-trained and don't feel like they have a job to do, the results often aren't pretty. I wouldn't be surprised if there were more to this story besides a "dog with a propensity to bite people", and I'm glad he's getting another chance.

why on earth would anyone want to use a dog KNOWN to bite people as a patrol dog?
do the police WANT dogs with a propensity to bite people, including kids?

There are thousands of great dogs... who have never and would never bite a person.. killed every day in this country.

Why the excuses for THIS dog?

These articles never say what the kid did to the dog. Some kids can be vicious, kicking, hitting the face etc.
