I've been giving one my Chihuahuas Bestros Chicken Jerky for well over a year. She's been vomiting & lethargic. My other dogs are not as finicky about treats but how are we to know whats tainted? Today I read at the bottom of a TV news screen Bestros Chicken Jerky was being recalled at Wal-Mart. When I got there they denied it but when scanned it came up as pulled off the shelves. They told a manager & she agreed it was pulled this morning. When I checked the pet food aisle the shelves were filled with regular & the HUGE sized bags I purchase. A lady said her dogs love them, I informed her of the recall. Thanks to your site I just learned Dingo Chickn' Jerky's been recalled. I've read China also feeds our imported seafood the same poison & it's in the fishfood being sold to our fish nurseries here in USA. Trader Joe's frozen food case is filled with Talapia raised in China. I don't know if other types of fish from China are being sold at Trader Joe's. I left the store. China's poisoning our children, our pets & our food sources. Now they've found defective tires being sold here. Will they poison the Olympiads next???

Just sharing a website I found while looking for dog toys made in the USA.
This website has echo friendly dog toys made in the USA... even some nice looking stuffed toys.

On tv just now they were reporting how all of these recalls are effecting Chinese workers. Apparently here in the US we are more concerned about the Chinese losing their jobs than we are about Americans losing theirs. I bet all these toys and treats were once safe when made in the USA by American workers. Our health and safety have been sold by our government. Do all our pets and children have to die before we get it?

The only dog toys I have found not made in China are Kong Toys. They are more expensive but well worth it. I’d like to know of any other ones out there if anyone has a list or website.
..................
G., when looking for toys for my puppies, I read on another pet website that Kong was a USA company. I just ordered 2 Kong toys made of yellow tennis ball material, and BOTH said "Made in China," which I didn't realize when I gave them the toys. I wrote about this in the forums. Believe me, I was shocked. My male destroyed the one toy in less than 40 minutes. SOME of the Kong toys ARE made in the U.S. Just don't buy the tennis ball fabric ones if you are avoiding imports. HTH

"1) Materials only derived from the veterinarian’s office &....."

"Materials"? Is that code for euthanized pets?
No surprises there.
If those "materials" are good enough for pet *food*,surely they're good enough for *treats*.
Tongue firmly in cheek...in disgust.

I don't give my dogs any thing like pig's ears or raw hide. Greenies are out too since my dogs gulf and choke on them instead of chew them.

Thank you, itchmo, for finding this info about the Chinese company producing Bestro treats. It's exactly what I was referring to in my post under the previous headline about Bestro.

If the correct English words were chosen for the company's description of the product, numbers 1, 3 & 4 below say to me that they are using infected/dead birds. This makes me sick! No thanks.

On the company’s website, Bestros/Pingyang Pet Products say that their Chicken Jerky Strips Treats are made through this four step process: 1) Materials only derived from the veterinarian’s office & Department of Agriculture approved farms & slaughterhouses, 2) Roasted under 75⊥-85⊥ for more than 10 hours, 3) Go through our unique microwave system under 120⊥ to ensure the CORE temperature meets the minimum standard of 70⊥ to kill the virus in all parts, 4) Treated by irradiation (Gamma Ray) to eliminate the harmful bacteria.

Good article here: brief excerpt: http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2007/08/17/3223/
So whom do we blame?

While elected officials and CEO’s wring their hands in dismay and call for increased oversight, the reality is that powerful business interests and the politicians who do their bidding have been peddling trade agreements for years that actually limit government’s ability to engage in any meaningful import inspections. In fact, trade rules do not allow for higher rates of inspection for products that come from outside of the U.S. than they do for domestic products. Why? Because under the twisted logic of free trade, to do so would be to discriminate against the exporting country, thereby creating a “trade barrier”.

In the China toy scenario, for example, even if the U.S. government ultimately decided to enforce stricter inspection measures because of the high incidence of these toys entering the country, China could slap the U.S. with a trade suit claiming that those measures were a barrier to trade and a violation of trade rules. If the suit were upheld, it would mean that the U.S. would be forced to roll back the regulations or risk a heavy fine."

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. BUT UNTIL THE DEAFMUTES IN CONGRESS GET THE IDEA, BOYCOTT IS THE ONLY THING THAT WILL HAVE AN IMPACT.

THIS ARTICLE SHOULD HAVE JUST BEEN TITLED 'TRADING AWAY OUR CHILREN"

GET INFORMED. PETS DIED - WE WON'T BUY.

My dog, Harley ate chicken strips from Walmart everyday. He developed some terrible problems with vomiting and diahrea. He was hospitalized and given prednisone, and other antibiotics, and seemed stable, then couldn't digest any store bought dogfood, even those prescription brands from the vet. He's now eating only freshly cooked chicken and pasta or rice that I cook for him. Happy to say that he is doing fine on the home cooked food. No more chicken strips or pigs ears, or rawhide chews for him! I really believe that the treats and the dogfood made him very ill. He is now getting Tylan Pwd. with his meals. Praying he continues to do well.

Thank you, Menusux! Best, I guess to avoid all these treats for the time being. Now this woman's dog died the end of July and WallyWorld has not recalled and FDA has not. Thank you for helping keep all of us up-to-date.

It is hard for me to understand why our government continues to allow any imports from China. In addition to poisoning our pets, now our children are being exposed to lead on tainted toys. Enough is enough! If we can not depend on our government to stop this insanity then at least each item imported from China and/or every manufacturer - no matter where they are headquartered - using ingredients or parts from China needs to be required to prominently label this fact on their product. That way consumers stand a chance of protecting themselves and their loved ones from all these dangerous, substandard products!

Think it's also important that people know that WalMart is not the only place Bestros brand products can be purchased--have personally seen some Bestros items sold at KMart as well; there may well be other stores carrying this brand.

PPP calls itself the #1 rawhide dog chews manufacturer of China; at the link in our story above you'll see they also refer to themselves as the leading pet products manufacturer and your private label partner from China.
This means that they do contract work, so an item can be produced by PPP, but carry the label of the company importing the item(s) --not Bestros or PPP. They have quite an extensive catalog of products; this should help you determine if the item you've purchased or are about to purchase may have been made by PPP:
