Cat Finds And Rescues His Injured Sibling

Guinness

A brave cat is being hailed a hero for finding his injured brother and taking him to safety.

Hamish, a one-year-old black cat, was struck by a vehicle, and he ran away from the scene injured. A neighbor contacted Hamish’s owners, and the family went on an extensive search to find Hamish. After 12 hours of trying to find their lost cat, the family had to stop their searching for the night.

The next morning, Hamish’s brother, Guinness, also a black cat, went out to try and find Hamish. Guinness found his injured sibling and dragged him back home just an hour later.

Hamish was rushed to the vet and underwent surgery and is now back at home.

More on Hamish and Guinness after the jump.

From Dorset Echo:

Tony Flett [the cats’ owner], 30, a marine, said: “The cat not only found his brother but dragged him home so that we could help him as the injured cat had a broken pelvis and back.”I’m a marine and if you did that you would get a medal,” he added, “This is a really heart-warming story and one of courage by two cats.”

Guinness, you truly are an amazing and heroic cat. You definitely deserve a medal and a great big hug. Well done!

One of many, many examples of altruistic behaviour in the animal world.

I am a cat lover and have lived with cats for a long, long time. This story is so wonderful and remarkable!

That shows how much love there can be between two animals! I had twin sister tuxedo cats when I was a child named Sugar & Spice. Sugar was a mighty hunter and would cross the street to hunt in an empty field. She was hit by a car and killed. ( one reason my cats are strictly indoor now) Spice, until the day that she died, would sit on the fence and “call” her sister…the same call that they would use to locate one another. She never got over the loss of dear little Sugar.

We claim to be the “superior beings”. I know we are not . I bow my head every day to say thank you, for all the lives that love me so dearly. We grow as a species, when we understand all life is precious. The animals ,knew this lesson first. They chose to adore us. I hope we will understand, that just “because it does not talk our form of communication”,they feel and understands and love without terms. I pray for the healings of the animals. Please, keep them safe and keep them indoors. Perfect souls have four legs and a tail. If you do not think this is true,………just look into their eyes. Special healing to Hamish.

i adore cats-they never get the credit for what faithful loyal and devoted beings they are. do you guys recall the momma cat who kept going into a fire to bring out her litter of kittens one by one? i nearly break down in tears just thinking of it. my lovely persian, who passed in feb., once lunged at someone, growling, because they were screaming at me. she backed them into a corner and stood between me and them until they left.

just like sugar and spice i have 2 tortie sisters who constantly call and coo to each other. one is the brave one and the other watches her before she makes any move. i only wanted to adopt one cat to ‘ replace’ the persian but i saw them clinging to each other…i just had to take them both. i thought they needed me but the thing is, as my older cats are ending their time here one by one, it is quite the other way around-i need them.

What a great story! Now I hope the cats’ owners will keep them safe indoors or build a cat-proof yard so they are not run over by cars again, or subject to any of the other many dangers that await roaming cats.

Guinness, big hugs and smoochies to you from Brisbane, Australia.

take good care of Hamish, and of yourself, sweet boy.

Mittens - I remember that story so well: the momma cat was blinded by smoke & couldn’t see her 7 kittens, and after she’d rescued them all from the burning garage, one by one, she lined them all up on the kerb and ‘counted’ them by smelling their noses … I still get all teary about that.

Furball Mom - your story about Sugar and Spice is so sad … I hope you can now picture them lovingly reunited in Kitty Heaven.
