Cat Returns Four Months Later After Last Seen In Bear’s Mouth

Banger counts her lucky stars that she is alive. Because four months ago, this cat was last seen near her house in Alaska dangling from the mouth of a grizzly bear.

A neighbor saw the bear take the gray-and-black tabby as a cat snack when the bear wandered into the yard.

Her owner, Allison Sayer, thought she would never see her cat again.

But four months later, Banger appeared a half a mile from where she was last seen. She was two pounds lighter, but besides that, she was completely healthy. She was even still wearing her collar with Sayer’s contact information.

Sayer was completely amazed that her cat survived the alleged bear. She thinks that maybe the bear lost interest in Banger or that perhaps her neighbor was mistaken. But she did know for sure that a bear was hanging out near her home and visited her porch earlier in the summer, and then a few days later, her cat was mysteriously gone.

A bear expert said that Banger is extremely lucky to be alive because cats rarely escape from grizzly bears.

If only Banger could talk and tell us of her bear adventure.

She looks like such a pretty and sweet girl. She may have defended herself so well the bear spit her out or went limp and made her escape after being carried far away and when the bear let it’s grip on her loosen. I’ll bet she never let’s another bear within 1/4 mile from her!!!!!

So glad she is ok, and made it back home.
What a nice surprise for her family, I bet they were so glad to see her.

May be the bear just had a maternal moment :-)

I am glad this had a happy ending but will never understand letting pets our unsupevised.

Just one more reason to keep cats confined - but a happy ending nevertheless!

I agree with Carol Johnson and MaineMom. I’m glad that Banger is okay, but I also hope her owner has learned a lesson and will keep her safe indoors from now on.
