Cat Survives 30 Mile Journey In Car Bumper

MontyMonty the cat survived a crazy car ride that he will most likely never forget.

This curious six-year-old ginger cat crawled inside his owner’s car front bumper and was hiding when his owner, John Cotgrave, took off on an hour-long drive.

Monty was able to cling on for 30 miles (40 minutes) while the car went up to speeds of 60 mph, until he fell out onto a road.

Cotgrave watched as Monty rolled onto the road in his rearview mirror. He immediately stopped his car and ran to rescue his injured cat.

He said, “Seeing him bounce and roll on to the road in my rear view mirror is an image I will never forget. My whole life froze and the color drained from my face. I really thought we would lose him.”

After picking up his cat, Cotgrave put him in his car and rushed him to the vet. The vet said that Monty had only suffered a few lost teeth, cuts and bruises, and a black eye, but the cat overall had escaped major injuries.

Cotgrave added that he felt extremely lucky that Monty survived and that there wasn’t a car behind him when he was driving, as Monty would have fallen into the path of the car.

He said that from now on, he’ll always check his car carefully to make sure Monty isn’t hiding inside.

Poor kitty! I’ll bet he never goes near a car again.

I know, its considered ‘cruel’ in the UK, but how about keeping that cat inside!

I agree that maybe it’s time to keep Monty safe INSIDE!

One heck of a survivor! Our 25 lbs mutt is waaaaaaaaaaaaay to huge to hide anywhere in our small sedan :-)

It’s scary, the places cats can get to. When i was very young (maybe 6 or 7) i remember that our pet cat crawled up into the car’s engine. Apparently (and duh, when you’re 37… but not when you are 7) the like the heat.

Sadly, she lost her leg when we turned on teh car engine. but not her life.

poor kitties. and poor owner. I couldn’t imagine seeing my dear cat fall onto the road !

Poor cat! Please keep him inside from now on.

Cruel in the UK to keep a cat indoors and safe ? Then consider me “cruel”. If this had happen to me I would have wrecked my van, seeing my cat hit the pavement at sixty miles per hour. many of my fur babies are close to twenty and in great shape. Know why ? Care and NOT being permitted out side. I love them too much to run this type of risk. I hope this cat heals quickly and the owner builds a cat patio for him so he can have a long and safe life. Sad, people just do not think of pet safety, first.

Donna: I agree with you, but in the UK you can’t adopt a cat if you are say you will be keeping it totally inside. You can’t declaw either (which I agree with).

I have built out door enclosures for my cats to be out side. But they are protected. They watch birds and eat grass and chase bugs. When they have had enough out side time ,they climb up their shelf steps and in the house, safe and tired . Working with rescues groups, the horrors that await a cat or dog, is too hard for me to live with. Safe, not sorry is my life style for my “angels”. My cats love the “adventure ” of the out doors,……..but they want the safety of the house if scared by lighting or storms. Thank You 2catmom,I did not know cats could not be adopted in the UK if kept indoors only.
