I've watched and had the luck to photograph one of the few remaning herds (?) of horses while doing work in AZ & NM. wild horses are uniquely beautiful. This is just sad. Back then, no one bothered to worry about the aborigine sites or the wildlife. Now they are playing catch up. If you read Ellyn Mitchell's books Silver Brumby series, they are all about these feral horses and the humans that catch them. As for a heartless society, when we treat each other in the same heartless way how can anyone expect us to treat other species any differently.
