Digital Dogs

Dog Digital ChipA dog registration and digital chip implant pilot program is being implemented in the Xicheng district in Beijing. A few months ago, the Chinese government launched a campaign to get pet owners to register their pets. In conjunction with this, the authorities are implanting dogs with this digital chip (which has the dog’s breed, birth, owner name and vaccinations on it) to increase the number of registered pets. The chip has a 30-year lifespan and is hoped that it will help with the problem of homeless and lost pets and deter the spread of rabies.

So is that so they can then go find them to club them to death when there’s a new outbreak of rabies, instead of vaccinating them?
