Not only are people battling over who gets the car or the children when they get a divorce, but they also are fighting over who gets the pet. One in five pet parents would fight over custody for their baby and a fifth of that number would go to court to settle a pet custody battle. A survey done by Direct Line Pet Insurance showed that 14% of owners would rather have their pet than the car and 6% would trade in the house if they could keep the pet. And 22% of owners would pay their spouse money if they could keep their pet and would be willing to pay an average of $5,000. Just make sure that your pet isn’t traumatized by all of the drama and doesn’t become bitter towards marriage.
