Dog Dies While Saving Family From Fire

NikkiNikki was a dedicated pet and hero to the Kuneff family.

This courageous Akita started barking early in the morning when she saw flames in the house. The Kuneffs were sleeping and awoke to find their house on fire.

Carolyn Kuneff spoke of her dog’s bravery, “I actually saw my dog run into the house through the flames to get my husband out. She made sure that we were safe, that I was safe, that I was out of the house. She knew that he was back in the house, and she actually ran through the flames to get him.”

The couple made it out of the fire safely, but unfortunately, Nikki did not. She died of smoke inhalation while rescuing her owners.

Kuneff is extremely distraught over the loss of her beloved pet and calls her a hero. She said that she can never replace her Nikki.

Anyone who considers animals dumb or things has never witnessed such altruistic behavior.

We say that “I would have made sure Nikki got out with me”. But it must have been a rush to escape death and poor Nikki was overcome by the smoke before anyone could help her. So tragic. And to think some cold hearted people with brains as big as walnuts want to outlaw breeds such as Nikki the rescuer.

The Akita is one of the breeds that Rep. Lesch in Minnesota want’s to ban. This is the kind of good news we do not hear enough of….not that the Akita died, but that the Akita is a loyal breed that is not “dangerous” by genes.
