This is a sad news. It should be a lesson for pet owners to choose the best dog boarding place for the dogs to be kept while we are away. We should think of their welfare and safety.

Cleveland Metrobark has sluts and stuck up bitches who brown nose all day long as workers. Don't trust your dogs to them. I have heard they touch dogs inappropriately if you know what I mean.

I agree, I think there is more to the story. Does anyone know if they ever found the dog? No amount of money could replace my dog, he is like a child to me. This story makes me feel sick inside and made me think of why I changed doggy day cares.

I used to take my Brittney to the Metro Bark in Cleveland until it became too crowded and unsafe. My dog used to love going there, but on our last trip there he was less excited, and more nervous. When I pick my dog up, I inquired if my dog, who used to go bonkers when pulling in, had a good day. They said yes, but there were way too many dogs for her to be sure. Anyway, I found a new place call the Barksdale Academy. The place is huge, and my dog loves it. I don't often recommend one service over another, but I give the Barksdale Academy an A+. I hope they understand that having the most dogs is not always the best thing for loyal customers.

I am not accusing anyone of anything, but what would you rather tell an owner, or have the media report?

We don't know what happened to your dog, we think he climbed over our fence. Or, we are sorry to tell you that your dog was attacked and killed.

Obviously, the second scenrio would be much worse for business. I hope it did not happen, but I think a dog climbing over a 10 foot fence would look odd, and be noticed.

I think this needs to be investigated, and hopefully fixed, from what I have read, this place needs to be shut down, or new staff hired. I am sure there are plenty of other dog day cares in the area.

I stopped taking my dog to this daycare a few weeks before this incident, because of the insufficient amount of staff looking after the dogs. The week that I decided to stop taking him there, they had two workers for 43 dogs, on several of the days and that was confirmed to me by a staff person.
My dog had gone there for quite a few months, and enjoyed it and I felt that he was safe there, but when I found out that the ratio of staff to dogs was that low, I knew he was nolonger safe there and haven't sent him back and won't.

An easy way to solve the fence problem would be to add an addition to it that curls about 2 feet back over in toward the facility. That's also a way to keep cats inside a yard...
I hope they find jack and that he is reunited with his family soon.

[...] Check it out! While looking through the blogosphere we stumbled on an interesting post today. Here’s a quick excerpt [IMG Jack]Annie Lazerwitz and Joe Medici are unsure how their two-year-old beagle mix went mysteriously missing from a Cleveland dog day care center. The couple adopted their dog, Jack, from a shelter three weeks ago. They were scheduled to go to an out-of-town wedding, so they had Jack evaluated at the Mutt Hutt boarding facility. If Jack did well with the other dogs, the couple would board their dog there. Medici dropped Jack off in the morning and when he returned four hours later, the dog [...]

My dog attends day care at the Mutt Hutt, and has had a few overnight stays there. He has ALWAYS been well cared for and well attended. The owner of this facility does GREAT work in the community for animals and even helps to rescue and rehab, so IMO I do not feel that this unfortunate sitaution was due to a lack of interest or attention. This is a fully fenced facility and when a dog goes outside to relieve itself, there are dozens of other inside...what if a caregiver went outside to supervise at the same moment something tragic was happening on the inside? Dogs are like children, and the new surroundings may have not been Jack-proof it sounds. Many dogs I have volunteered with over the years have looked like innocent little angels but have scaled fences over 15 feet high! Especially since this dog was new to both the Mutt Hutt and new to the couple as well. What a heartwrenching accident. Above all, my heart goes out to Jack's family and my fingers are crossed for a safe return.

I find it difficult to believe that a small dog would climb a 10 foot fence unseen...if they had been watching as they should have.

This is the 2nd recent case of negligence due to a pet care facility....remember the one in Florida where the dog died because the idiots left him in a van??

I would just flip!!!! Although dealing with an escape artist is more than difficult. Little Jack looks like a real athelete. He looks like a tree climbing fool and he could very well have scaled that fence. But the Doggy Day care should have a CONSTANT eye on the dogs when OUTSIDE, fenced or not! I hope they will never leave outdoor dogs unwatched again. Hope that little brown Jack does not get hit by a car or harmed in anyway and is returned to his people!!!

I agree with anonymous. Mutt Hutt is responsible for all dogs in their care and should take all steps (posters, ads, etc.) to try and locate the dog. Please note that the story was aired on Fox television's local station (channel 8 in Cleveland, Ohio). Whether this was prompted by Mutt Hutt or not, it was great of Fox to air the story to get the word out about this missing dog. Hopefully Jack is found safe and sound. I know I would be highly upset (an understatement) if this happened to either of my retrievers and can only wish a safe and fast return for Jack.
