In a perfect world someone would have armed Micheal VICKS dogs! With any luck since it was only the idiot that was hurt, the authorities will remove the dog before he is hurt.

Even though I don't know the whole story, I still think that the Humane Society should take this pup away. What kind of moron leaves a loaded gun. without the safety on, in plain sight and on the table. Redneck indeed. And yes, he does look rather skinny for a Dane. All in all IMHO this is not the right home for this dog. Also, the woman should think twice before marrying this nitwit and having kids. Just think if it had happened to a child!

I hope the humane society stays on top of this situation. The people have chosen to be together ~ the poor dog doesn't have that choice. Hopefully the dog will be removed before something awful happens to him. He looks like a beautiful dog. Great Dane Rescues? Somebody in the Memphis area?

This is a "tail" about mental impairment. Booze, pot, or just too much inbreeding.

I kinda think the man and the woman are right for each other. She and her brother were in the same room and could've moved the gun. The dog, though - he should get the heck outta Dodge. He wasn't being protective and didn't think he'd done anything wrong - surely his tail bangs into things all the time and he wouldn't connect that with what happened - the noise, flash, and concussion of a gun going off scared him. (And rightfully so.)

What you have to ask yourself, besides "Do you feel lucky, punk?" is WHY the gun discharged when it fell off the table. It's hard to make them do that when you're trying. A hundred to one it was cocked.

Loaded gun? They aren't too much protection if they're unloaded. For that matter, .22s aren't that much protection anyway. But you kinda have to keep it where the dog isn't going to fetch it and bring it to you barrel-first.

Itchmo, I have to say that I am very disappointed with the way you chose to present this news item. Up until the cut (and most don't bother reading under the cut) your article sounds just like those trashy tabloids you mention. Like many, I started frequenting your site with the start of the recall mess and have stayed on as you have lots of good information and resources. I've come to expect much better.

loaded guns without a safety do not belong on end tables. fortunately it's the ass who left the gun there that got the business end.the dog was trying to do us a favor by thinning out the stupid herd-it is getting rather large as of late.

giving a bad name to legal gun owners everywhere. i am a gun owner. i am not a violent person nor an idiot nor a macho brut-i grew up with guns and hunting. the idea that all of us who responsibly own guns, and we're the majority of legal gun owners, than you, are stupid, careless murderous thugs is propaganda fueled by stories like this one.

What really gets me is that the woman said "I knew he was smart, I didn’t think he was that smart. He was always protective. I didn’t think he would be like that.” Like the dog is some evil mastermind who had been plotting to shoot her fiancee all along! One time my puppy knocked over a lit candle...I had no idea that he hated my house so much and wanted to burn it down!

Anyway...I'm really concerned about the dog's safety. I hope that the humane society or AC will follow through with this case.

Obviously King George was horrified at what had happened (backed himself in the corner with that look on his face) and his innocently wagging tail while he was trying to be happy and friendly hitting the gun was no ones fault but the human's who allowed it to be laying open on the table. I would be one to say if anyone touches that poor dog in a bad way because of the stupidity of the owner and the other people there, I would personally want to go there and kick all of their @@@!!!!####!

This guy is an idiot for leaving a loaded gun lying around. That has trouble written all over it. Fortunately he was the one who suffered the consequences and not someone else who might have been killed. Hopefully he will learn to either put the gun in a secure place or unload it if he leaves it lying around.

The guy left a loaded gun on an end table? Sometimes stupidity should be painful and, in this case, it certainly was that.

She "hoped that he wouldn’t hurt King George too badly?" That woman needs to drop that guy fast and take the dog with her. Not only would she save the dog, but it's only a matter of time before her charming fiance starts hurting her, too - if he hasn't already.

The fiancee should drop the guy, if she's worried he'll hurt King George. If she's worried, obviously the guy has a penchant for violence. It's his fault anyway...he's the moron who left a loaded gun on a table. If he's too stupid to realize that the dog didn't do it on purpose, he just a brainless macho idiot who shouldn't be allowed to own a gun.
