Dog Video: Lobo’s 13th Birthday
Robert, an Itchmo reader, shared this video with us of his German Shepherd/Malamute mix’s birthday. Lobo turned 13 on December 26. Robert said Lobo was basically crippled last year and he thought he would have to put him down before moving to a different state, but Robert said that with the right food, medication and supplements, Lobo is doing so much better and is walking again.
Happy Birthday Lobo!

Cute! All that ‘talking’ is the Malemute. Yeah, I keep going with mine, too, as long as they are not really suffering and they still find pleasure in something. I feel I owe it to them, it’s the least I can do after all their years of love for me. Happy Birthday!

Are you adopting??
I want a birthday like that!!!
Happy Birthday Lobo!!
December 28th, 2007 at 6:44 pm
Cute, and ‘Happy birthday to Lobo!’
But, the owners may want to do a little MORE research on their knowledge of ‘quality kibble’ because ‘Kumpi’ dogfood (or whatever the name of it was…)
is NOT a good brand! Its a 2 star brand which is bad….
The very first ingredient is ‘corn meal’
Lobo needs to be on a much better kibble!!! Please!!!

Give Lobo a big birthday hug for me! He looks like a big ol sweet heart! :)
December 28th, 2007 at 6:55 pm
Hi Poodlluver….Thank you for the birthday wishes!
Lobo says Thank you via a howl!
I did do my research and I don’t want to make this a debate on quality kibble. Many police organizations, including the UN Security Detail, use this food and have had fabulous results, as have I. Kumpi was also fed to the 9/11 dogs at ground zero and did very well on the food. As well, Kumpi has never had any recalls, meat sourced from the US and they have been very open on who manufacturers their food. I do appreciate the concerns but the evidence I have seen in Lobo is good for me.
Kind Regards,
Robert Davis

Robert, congrats to you and Lobo. Now, what are the arthritis drug and brand of glucosamine you refer to on the video? I couldn’t catch it. I am glad you found something other than Rimadyl. Keep on keepin on!

December 28th, 2007 at 9:13 pm
happy 13th birthday and many more…
it’s so heart warming to see someone so caring for his dogs, i applaud you, robert, for trying to help lobo and not just euthanize him because of his disability. i am sure he’s enjoying every moments with you.
wishing you and lobo and of course the rest of the gang a happy new year!!!

Happy Birthday Lobo!! What a beautiful boy!! My dog is GSD and Malamute mix also. He looks a lot like Robo, but not as much white. He has the same eyes and snout and the big huge black nose which I love and he TALKS a lot also. My husband will come home from work and say “what did you do today” and he will just chatter away. God bless!!

Hi Elizabeth
Thank you for your well wishes.
The medicines are:
Metacam - a liquid arthritis med - very good and his blood work comes back great with the Metacam.
Dasuquin - a suppliment of Glucosamine, avocado, etc… very very good!
Tramadal - a pain med that is new for use in dogs. Works very well.
These three combinations have worked wonders for him.
Lobo sends a “howl” your way!

Hi Mimi
Everyone says hello or “howl” and “bark”. We had also tried the wheelchairs for dogs…but Lobo wouldn’t use it. He would just stand, looking at me and I could just hear him say, “Get me out of this thing - I’m embarassed!” I know they work wonders for other dogs, but Lobo would take to it. I still hold him up when we go outside….I just use his leash and put under his belly (near his back legs) for support. Thank you for your kind words!
Have a happy new year!

Happy Birthday . Lobo
Robert , we had the same problem , with our , ” Germen Shepard “…. only 8 years old , Vet’s don’t know every thing , they are owned , put threw school , by …… Pet Food Co.’s , given free vacations , to push there PET FOOD ,
The Vet wanted to have our Bee-Bee sent 50 miles away , to be have her hind legs operated on , @ a cost of $3000.00 , My Son , who is a Retired Deputy Sheriff , who knew a lot of medical , to help people , said , put her back legs in a sling , of elestic banage , to give the ligaments support , couldn’t keep them from , slipping off , then cut up a small girdel , sewed , to fit over back legs , hold up , with elestic bandage to Her collar , it gave Her support to Her legaments , we didn’t have to pick Her rear end up again , Pet -Food is the problem , we thought we were buying the best , we were poisoning our animals , we started cooking , there food , because , we heard all the recalls , started researching , what , they put in the food. Rice , beef is good , be careful of , your rice , if it is not made in U.S. & from China , it has …….. Melamine poison in it , not who distribes it , in the U.S. , where was it grown ??? Bacon grease is not good for animals , after 5 months , were able to leave Her legs out of the sling , that we took off , washed every week , Plus the change of food , She was strong enought to walk , not fall , a month after that , She can walk normal & …….. RUN . I would never , ever , trust a pet food again , & if you want a good , 100 % formula , for Arthritis , ……. go to Gero Labs , in Canada , a big Co. just put ( gerolabs.com )get there ….. Arthro-7 capsules ………. give …Lobo one , three times a day , NO pet food , your cooked food only……..she may be 13 , but in 4 months , she will be walking again, but , try to find a way to give support to her legs , She can’t stop using them , with wheels , when you stop using legments , muscles , even a little , ( YOU LOSE THEM ) . Rober , your a caring person , but , dont ever , trust pet food Co.’s , they don’t love dogs , cats , they love ……… MONEY . Corn meal is a filler , try . soaking , dry ,Garbanzo beans also known as …. chick peas , over night , pour the water off , cook , in water , (cooks down ), put , ( can ) chicken broth in cook , I do 3 Pk.”s at a time , a can of chicken broth , for each pack of , 1 LB. beans , then you can just put meat or chicken , grown turkey , salmon ( wild , can ,salmon ) ((not raised on fish farm , feed , poison feed. )) ( NO NAVY BEANS , LIMB ) black beans , lentil grate.,
your doing a grate job , keep up the grate job your doing , but threw the …….. DRY PET FOOD , IN THE GARBAGE. T.K.J. Thel
OUR PETS ARE WORTH , A LITTLE EXTRA CARE , THEY WOULD GIVE UP THERE LIFE FOR US.

My Border Collie mix has been diagnosed with Degernerative Mylopothy. We had xrays. exams and a cat scan and the diagnosis is unanimous by means of eliminating other causes for her rear leg weakness. I also tried the wheels and she did not adjust to them. I am currently trying a holistic vet who has her on a regimen of chinese herbal medication. I saw some improvement but it seems to have slowed. She is dragging herself around. Her spirit and appetite are fine. She has not lost control of her urine or bowels yet. As it is not arthritis, does anyone know if the treatments mentioned can help my Emily? I am sooo glad Lobo is doing so well.

I found this web page about DM….I hope it can help provide some information to speak with your vet about. http://neuro.vetmed.ufl.edu/ne.....DMofGS.htm
I wish the best for you and hope that some treatment will help soon.

December 31st, 2007 at 2:04 pm
Robert thank you so much for sharing Lobo’s birthday with us. It was beautiful!! He is a gorgeous boy and a real sweetie, I love how he talks. I have a female, smaller than he otherwise they could be twins, who growl-talks as well, and loves to howl with me.
Don’t worry about what people are telling you about his food, my 3 have been on Kumpi and whatever of my vegetarian leftovers they want since last March and all are doing extremely well. Lizzie has finally, after 3 years of diet dog food, regained her waistline with Kumpi Senior. 4 dogs that we have fostered in the last year have completely regained their weight and their health, along with the light in their eyes, on Kumpi as I refuse to give them the Commercial Crap that is donated to the humane organization I work with.
