I have 5 dogs and 2 cats. I adopted Hazel my first cat from a shelter. I live in the country beside a convenience store and you would not believe how many people dump their animals out behind the store. That is how I got my other cat Tiger and all my dogs Betsy, 13 year old beagle mix, Little Bit, app. 8 year old Pomaranian, Clyde, 7 1/2 year old Pom mix (Little Bit’s son) Maggie, app 1 1/2 year old Lab mix and last but not least Sweet Pea, app. 6 month old border collie mix. I will continue to help all that I possibly can. I expect to see all of them again one day in Heaven. They help me just as much as I hope that I help them enjoy their time here on earth. Anyone who abuses an animal should have to endure whatever they did to their animals. I’m sure they propably won’t see them in the afterlife. To all of you good people keep up the good work you will be rewarded!

Hi, I read what you said about cutting the vocal cords and we just rescued a female English Bulldog who never barks and about 6 years ago rescued a female jack russell and she never barked!! What I’m trying to figure out is that with the bulldog their airways are so small could a breeder really do that to them without almost killing the dog? Oh my god the thought of that happening makes me sicker then I already was

I have 2 dogs and 3 cats. All my cats were rescued but my dogs were adopted from breeders. They were responsible breeders of course, but i got my two dogs before i learned about puppy mills and before i learned about all the neglect they get and before i learned how many were homeless. Now i only rescue! My big problem is i dont know why puppy mills are legal, i read a story about a puppy that was rescued from a puppy mill it’s name was baby, it was a 3 legged dog and it couldnt bark because at that puppy mill the lady cut out the vocals of the dogs so they didnt have to listen to them bark and cry to get out of the cages. Now that is cruelty so why is this still such a problem? And why is the government letting this happen? If anyone has any ideas as how to help this problem please contact me at kaitlyn_lucky_21@hotmail.com ….I would like to help i just dont know what to do!

I adopted a puppy mill breeding dog in Nov through a rescue organization. As soon as I heard her story I knew we needed each other. All my other animals accepted her and sensed that something was very different about her. She came with a lot of baggage but she has enriched our lives more than words can tell. When you look into Lexie’s eyes you see pain, fear, hope, forgiveness and love. I will definitely be looking to further my wealth by adopting another puppy mill adult dog. You should!

Dennis, remember breeders have TWO reasons they want the dogs spayed and neutered. One, cause most of them realize the value of spaying to keep stray populations down, but also, and really - for breeders, more importantly, they don’t want you getting into competition with them.

breeding, no matter how wonderful or horrid the owners, is still a business with a bottom line.

To Denise Miller ~ there are many good breed rescues in Michigan. IF you seriously want to add to your family, I would certainly consider going that route. It’s a win-win situation. You adopt a rescue and get the breed/size you want.

I seriously do not understand why this man has been allowed to keep ANY of the dogs. This puppy miller should be put out of business.

Hi Stefani and Nora, I wanted to say thank you for the list or organizations that are taking in the dogs and puppies. Nora are you saying they did not take all the dogs and puppies? Even though my pup is registered her breeder and a requirment that she be spayed and i would have done it anyway. she is a baby and my baby not a puppy breeder. My kitty Rocky came from the humanes society in michigan. Puppy mills need to go. I wished everyone would spay and neuter their animals. i wanted a certain breed. I had bought a shihtzu puppy in 1996 Muffin. she came from a pet store at the time. I did not realize she probably came from a puppy mill. she devoleped lymphoma cancer at 7 years old and we tried to save her and went way in to debt and could not. it nearly killed us to lose her. I have missy now and i wanted to be very carful about where she came from and the blood line. Missy’s mom and dad are show dogs. I have been to the breeders home and she is wonderful. Not many are like her though and i would never buy another shihtzu from anyone else and have learned my lesson. I have the perfect home for a loving pup and missy is so spoiled and loved and that is they way people need to treat them. my pup is a memeber of my family. I lost my kitty Rocky in 2004 and I had adopted him from a shelter and he was a nice kitty. take care everyone and thanks. sincerely, Denise Miller

Now the sad part is that 200 (200!!!!!!!) dogs remained to suffer even more and exist in their imitation of life. Also with none of them being altered, you can bet on that, nothing to stop the population of expanding to include more suffering and neglected little dogs not knowing the outside of a cage. How can this be permitted to go on?

If you are in Maryland, as someone else said, Montgomery County Humane Society has some of them. www.mchumane.org

In addition, about 100 of them have gone to the Washington Animal Rescue League (a fabulous organization) www.warl.org

I also read that about 60 are going to the Fairfax County Shelter in Fairfax County Virginia –

Also in Northern Virginia, this article says that they will go to some shelters in Alexandria. You might want to call the Animal Welfare League of Alex. and ask if they have any

Apparently, they will go to shelters as far away as Florida and New York.

In the Washington DC area, small dogs in good health are quickly adopted from shelters. It’s the larger breeds and special needs dogs that languish and often end up euthed.

But small dogs in good health go fast. Thsi is a rare “opportunity” for those who are committed to adopted only from shelters and who desire a smaller dog. It is too bad however that this “opportunity” comes as a result of such abuse and suffering, but hopefully, it is a chance for people to LEARN and also a chance for these rescue organizations to raise both awareness and funds.

I would love to adopt a small female to be a sister to my little shihtzu and would spoil her the rest of her llife. I will probably have to go to the breeder I got my pup Missy from becuse they don’t have any small dogs in the shelters in michigan just once in a while. My dogs breeder is wonderful and caring her dogs are everything to her. I just wished the rest of them were like that. So now I would be very happy to adopt a little dog and can’t. I can go to a rescue yes but alot of the dogs are older and I just lost a shihtzu to lymphoma cancer. She was only 8 years old and Missy is young and needs a younger pup able to keep up with her. I have the right home big fenced yard lots of food and love. I hope this puppy mill breeder gets in big trouble for this abuse. Denise Miller
