Because we where up to date they had to go under house arrest for 6 MONTHS. Even thou we had our own vet they sent a vet out to check our dogs after 6 months before we could be taken off of their rader. My husband & I had to get shots & since we did not have insurance at the time it cost us over $4,000.00. The price whent by your weight & we arn’t that big. The first shot cost me $800.00 & I think his first was about $100.00 more. That was 8 or 10 years ago. The rest of the shots where a little cheeper.

Everybody has to do what they feel is right but I would suggest that if you don’t get the rabies shot you keep money in the bank because if you get in trouble you are going to need lots of it. Maybe the law in your state is different but I would guess it is still tuff. My babies will stay up to date on their rabies shots.

Mittens, I agree with everything you said except the shots are not given in the belly anymore. The first shot is given in the behind & the rest in the arm. I got sick my husband did not.

To everyone out their please, please if you ever have to get shots after the fact make shure the first one is in the behind. At the hospital the beautiful nurse was going to give the first shot in our arm, but thank God I knew different because of my vets advice. I had her check with the doctor & then she gave the first one in the behind which is very important.

Rabies is almost totally unheard of in the US due in no small part to the regular, consistent and yes, REGULATED BY LAW access to vaccination.

People who “do the research” should be aware that as many of those “research sites” are as dubious and propaganda laden sites as you claim the filp side should be.

Again, should laws look into how often vaccinations are required? probably. but please remember, vaccination laws are not there FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR PET, but for the sake of any human your pet may bite.

vaccinations of all sorts in large part have greatly expanded the life expectancy of most every one of us and have nearly eradicated many crippling diseases like childhood polio. for every vaccine there are always a portion of the population that will have a bad reaction-this is the same for every medication ever devised- but this is generally a very very small number. even vaccination site cancers happen in a very MINUTE portion of the pet population. and although the law could certainly stand to be changed to reflect the facts of the length of the protection provided from one shot, it would behoove us all to recognize that the life expectancy of humans not so long ago in america was around 48 years old ( 1920s- my grand parents generation)and household pets like cats who would live under 10 years in the wild now have greatly enhanced life expectancies into the 20’s because of science and it’s advancements. it’s not all evil and a conspiracy. the laws are out dated-perhaps work on changing instead of indicting others for pointing out the facts- it’s the law because we can’t expect humans to do right vis a vis the public health and their pet’s welfare without forcing them due to chronic irresponsibility . those with bad reactions are a very very small number.

seeing how the vet collects all the money for the vaccines how is it logical to think the state gets the money? i was told by a local vet who volunteered at the free animal clinic which gives out cheapo vaccines that they actually made tons of money through selling flea treatments and could practically give away the rabies shots-only charging their cost from the drug company.

i would certainly do the drive thru-i have 4 cats and previously had 6. getting them all at once to the vet is like planning out d-day and isn’t without a loss of blood and the shedding of tears.

Most people not being able to afford the lengthy quarantine will have to allow their animals to be euthanized. Rather than attacking the vets who are making it easier for people to follow the law (that vets and shelters also have to obey), attack the law if you think it’s wrong.

and many would have been spared life threatening side effects.
