Family Says Pet Bear Acts Just Like Dog

AbbyMost people freeze with fear when they are approached by a bear. Not the Friday family.

This Pennsylvania family has a pet bear named Abby. They say that she is just like a dog but a little bit bigger and with wild animal instincts.

Abby’s owner said that he grew up in the country and loves animals. He owned a different bear for 20 years before getting Abby. He says that if you give an animal care and love, they will give you the care and love in return.

The family has a license to own a bear through the state game commission.

Friday says that Abby loves to go for car rides to go to the gas station to get M & M’s. She sticks her head out the window and pants just like a dog. People driving or walking by definitely give a second look at a bear sticking her head out a car.

She also rides on a tractor with Friday and holds onto him just like a person. Friday also says that if he is not feeling so well, Abby starts licking his ear and he instantly feels better.

It’s not always easy raising a bear though. Friday says that sometimes in the middle of the night, he hears a crash and boom. He wakes up to find that Abby has raided the refrigerator and it is completely empty.

Don’t know about anyone else, but I disagree with any family keeping a pet bear PERIOD! Bears are wild animals and as such, should be left to live out their lives in their native habitat. What happens if this bear goes ballistic on them? I see nothing good coming from this. Perhaps if this family loves bears so much they could spend their time and energy to help those bears in the wild (or get them released from circuses, etc).

I agree. The Game Commission should know better even if the family doesn’t. It’s a disaster waiting to happen.

Agree with all above. This is the kind of animal that ends up in a place like Noah’s Lost Ark.

I agree with all of you too. no good will come of this. Even if the bear doesn’t turn on them who will take care of it if something happens & they can’t?

Well most times I agree. But this is one of those rare times with a rare bear. I see no problem with him having this bear as a pet. Not like he never owned one before. Had one for 20 years. Guy knows what hes doing

I personally think it’s great. I also am checking into a license to own a bear. This is how I found this site. I am a animal lover and always have been. I have bears going through my yard all of the time. I have named them all. I can tell you that one of my bears has been injured, by man. This is why I want a licence to own. Now I worry about his well being and safety. He loves to ring my chimes,so I hung them were he will now be able to reach them with his injury, and I know he is here. Stay safe and happy Abby!
