Family Searches For Pet Rabbit Allergic To Carrots and Lettuce
Ten-year-old Kerry Anderton is worried about the safety of Gizmo, her pet rabbit.
Her brown and white rabbit went missing from the garden of her house. And Kerry is completely distraught over the disappearance of Gizmo because this rabbit is not your typical rabbit.
Three-year-old Gizmo is allergic to carrots and lettuce, and Anderton is afraid that her rabbit will get sick if whoever took Gizmo feeds him the typical rabbit diet.
The Anderton family fed Gizmo special rabbit food because of his dietary restrictions.
Kerry’s mother said that her daughter cannot sleep due to worrying about the health of her rabbit.
She stated to whoever took the rabbit: “All I can say is, if they have taken it to look after it then that’s fine but, I have to stress, Gizmo needs a special diet.”
The family is offering $100 reward for the return of Gizmo.

“Carrots and lettuce” should NOT be a rabbit’s diet, typical or not. (Especially if it’s iceberg lettuce, which has almost no nutritional value.) Rabbits need to be free-fed all the grass hay they want, along with a variety of fresh, leafy greens: collards, mustard, dandelion, etc. Broccoli is also good. Carrot tops are great, if you can find carrots with the green leafy tops attached. But carrots themselves should be reserved for occasional treats, along with slices of apples and bananas.
Great information on rabbit care can be found at the House Rabbit Society’s Web site, Rabbit.org.
Rabbits make great house pets, by the way. They’re gently friendly and playful, and they can be box-trained (put hay over paper pellets so they can eat in the box — kinda like reading on the john, bunny-style). They don’t have to spend their lives in cages!
Eco-bonus: Rabbits will happily eat all your green kitchen trimmings from meal preps and turn them into droppings that’ll super-charge your compost pile! (I just dump the entire box in the compost pile, since the hay and paper pellets will also compost.)

Looks like someone is spamming the comments with a link to a “fake” site setup to get people to come over and just click on their ad links….. See the first two comments from some blog-cabin URL……
