I called Nature's Logic & talked to manger & he said parsley they use is safe & besides it's cooked so would not be a problem. I started using their all food fortifier for my home cooking because it is 100% all natural food sources. He didn't even know about the recall & sure was nice to me & answered all my questions. I started using it because I was worried that I was giving my babies all the vitamins & minerals they needed since I home cook. I believe him, hope I'm not making a mistake. My dogs like it added, kitty is still making up her mind.

Sam's club parsley is Tone Brothers, inc Ankeny,LA5021 USA( not sure I have spelling right). Since 1873. Sam's always seen to get the cheapest. Parsley is a plant & I sure don't want anything grown in China or India's dirt. Just because it says USA, it doesn't say grown in USA. No where on the jars does it say where it is grown.

Thomas, I've seen several home-made pet food receipes that include parsley as a healthy additive since it is a leafy green vegi.

Thank you for all the background on the parsley problems. You are amazing at finding info fast!!

I just seems amazing that something as "harmless" as parsley powder, whether from China or the US can be potentially fatal. Very scary!!

Why is parsley used in pet foods ? Is this another cheap filler? It appears pet food is a dumping ground for road kill and garbage.

anonymous,

The recall you posted is the same supplier of the salmonella-tainted parsley powder which forced the Robert's Veggie Booty recall. Van de Vries said the parsley powder was made in China:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19763005/site/newsweek/page/2/

Robert's says it bought the seasoning from Atlantic Quality Spice and Seasonings, a division of Van de Vries Trading Corp. of Edison, N.J. Atlantic bought the seasoning ingredients from three other American companies, says Cooper. Some of the ingredients were from China, but he can't confirm which product is responsible for the salmonella. (The ingredients used to make Veggie Booty, as listed on the package: Corn meal, rice, organic soy flour, rice and/or sunflower oil, spinach, kale, cabbage, carrot, broccoli, calcium carbonate, vitamin A, vitamin C, parsley and sea salt.) Cooper says they have an idea which ingredient might have caused the problem, but they are awaiting confirmation from the FDA and the CDC.

July 3, 2007--Company (Robert's Veggie Booty) says all seasonings were Chinese imports.

Wonder if this is related to the Diamond recall. Seems to have happened at the same time.

August 30, 2007
Stirrings LLC Participates in Voluntary Nationwide Recall of Rimmer® Brand Mojito Cocktail Garnish Due to Possible Health Risk from Contaminated Raw Ingredient Supplied by Van de Vries Spice Corporation

http://www.fda.gov/oc/po/firmrecalls/stirrings08_07.html

Although Stirrings LLC's tests of finished product samples were negative for the presence of Salmonella, parsley powder, one of several ingredients supplied by Van de Vries Spice, tested positive for Salmonella.

Where does parsley powder come from?
