The FDA lies and spreads more BS. I don't feel any safer about my human food or commercial pet food. They have had how many years to get their act together, how much money, etc. What if this had been humans who died - would they still be saying how unprepared they were, didn't know how to handle such a problem. What do we pay them for?? I only hope someday in the very near future the real truth will be written about.

Nobody is going to know how many pets were affected until the news can be printed on the back page and in a single paragraph. By that time, something worse will be going on so this'll seem minor. I've watched Bush work that way since they got into office.

People foods are handled this way. Doesn't that make you feel secure?
I'm worried about the the u.s. gov't. more than terrorists from halfway around the world.

The melamine was not the poison. It should not have been in the pet food ingredients anyway, but there were other poisons involved.

Private testing is the only way to know, because the FDA cannot be trusted.

Sunny knows that his days of sucking money from the public AND the bribes from the drug companies are nearly over so he may be hitting the bottle heavy, or just naturally ugly, who knows. For sure his mama was not breeding for the brains when she had him. Or ethics, or ..well.. you get the point.
I am hoping that we can have the trial after Bush is already out of office so there will be no "scooter skating" on the jail time for Sunny and his buddies.
Jail time and fines and plenty of both is what the situation calls for.

Yes it was unlawful to have melamine in our grains fed to the cattle, chickens, pigs but they still let them all out in our food supply and into our pet food supply! Guess they can do what ever they want whether it be unlawful or not! Everyone knows he had more proof then just sixteen pet deaths and I would have thought more of him to admit it! but of course he just beat around the bush and then tells us our pet food is save. He knows it isn't but they are all just waiting to see what will happen when all the tainted meat gets into the pet food chain and hoping that their cover up will not get any of them sick. They are taking a big risk with our pets health and our health! Liars! they are all liars!

IF the FDA really tested the food, they tested products provided by the companies. Do you think the companies would give them ANYTHING they knew would be toxic? All they would have to do is throw a label on the can or put new in an old bag. IF the FDA tested anything it may have been a can of Spam.
I would have more respect for a company who came forward and said "THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH OUR FOOD WE WILL FIX IT". I have yet to see any company DO ANYTHING BUT DISPUTE WHAT IS THE TRUTH.
They should consider that many of the pet's who made their company successful are NOW DEAD!

They all lie, lie lie. It's a fact. I hope someone does get all the records of the finances of all these guys.
I never received a call back from the FDA. Guess they don't believe Me. And I wish they would state a large number. why are they so afraid of all the pets who died? It's not fair to them not to report the truth.
Did you hear about the Surgeon General yesterday? Said He had a lot to say about food saftey, but that the Gov. told Him to keep it hush hush. What are they hiding?
and The Head of the Weather bureau[ can't remember his name] had to step down for telling the truth? that the system is outdated and they need more money?
anyone who says anything about the Gov. on up and down gets fired or quits.
And You're right. I think we are being taxed without representation. Illegal. Throw the bums out!

When the pet food recall started, various Pet Food Companies involved, advised its customers that if it had some of the recalled food,to have their pets tested at the Vet, and carefully dispose of what is left.

Now they want you to supply samples of the tainted food that they told you to dispose of?? Hello !

Now, I bet if you didn't keep the food they asked you to throw out, you will have a hard time collecting from them for the vet $$$

Sundlof doesn't know what he's talking about. FDA never received the samples of the exact food to test for acetamenaphin from the lab. To this day those pet food samples have not been tested by FDA so how can they say it's not there!

Dorene says:

You really cannot trust the FDA to do an honest test of the food anyway, so do not feel bad about throwing it out.

Since all the FDA does is lie and cover up and take bribes, we really do not need them at all and I look forward to the disbanding of an expensive and totally useless agency, I plan to keep pressure up for complete investigation into bribery and criminal charges for them.
Food and drugs will be SAFER when the FDA is gone or in jail and more ethical and honest folks, who are being CLOSELY watched, are in charge.

Mittens I think you left one important name out of your statement about the Kennedy, mccain Shamnesty bill . It should read the Kennedy , Mccain ,BUSH shamnesty bill. For this writer this is not about Democrat or Republican I have not heard anything from canidates from either of these partys that I would vote for them for president.

Yes we do have a Democratic Congress many these elected officials have also received support from Agribusinesses , Corporations and one in particular ADM has supported canidates from both partys . In one election when the Repubilcan canidate they favored appeared to be loosing they threw support behind the Democrat to ensure their obtaining what they wanted to gain for their corporate interest .

The pet food problems and the human food problems have made us all aware that we need change in the government the FDA, USDA etc. I am sure you have seen the past post and links that the USDA issued on Melamine. It is illegal to add it to feed. One federal agency I beleive was the USDA issued a warning that no pregnant woman should be inspecting factorys for Melamine containmation do to the risk. This ingredient is not approved to be added tp feed and was fed to livestock that was approved for human consumption . This did not happen under Clinton but under the Bush , Cheney administration. Did they do anything to stop this ?NO

I live in PA and when my cat got sick from eating Iams, I called the FDA number for PA and left a message. Yesterday, (7/10), at 5:30 pm, someone from FDA actually called me back and asked if I wanted to file a complaint.

Of course I did. They actually asked me if I had a sample of the food that made Lindsey sick (from MARCH!!!!). Unfortunately, after reading all the stuff here and on PetConnection, I thought the investigation was over, so I threw everything out last month.

I don't know if filing a complaint does any good at this point, but I dragged out all my vet records from March and told them everything. I'm totally bumming that I threw out the food, but gosh, after FIVE MONTHS, was I really supposed to expect that someone would get back to me????

BTW, I never got a refund from IAMS, even though I applied for one. I will NEVER buy their food again -- I've been getting coupons and they go right into the recycling bin.

I agree wholeheartedly with Mittens, Quote:

"if overwhelming public bipartisan displeasure with the kennedy/mccain ‘ ’shamnesty’ bill can force the hand of washington to do the actual bidding of the american citizen ,as they should have been doing all along, i do not see why the same cannot be done for our dangerous food and drug regulatory situation which even ex fda directors classify as ‘ broken’."

We were fighting the BIG GUNS on amnesty, and we are fighting the BIG GUNS on COOL and other measures to fix our broken food safety system.
We can DO IT!

I posted a comment at petconnection Friday night dump thread with the info to comment on COOL. But I think more important than commenting to the USDA/FDA about anything, is to put pressure on the elected congressmen.

I don't know about y'all, but I think we need to get control of our country NOW! If we can't whip them into shape we need to THROW THE BUMS OUT!

Until Sundlof gets his shiny face out there and states that the TRUE death toll is in the thousands and gets THE TRUTH as widely reported as the big lie then I am calling him a LIAR to his face.

Any public official who is part of this cover up OWES me and every other citizen who pays his salary a personal apology and far better service .
I think an audit of his , and every one of his family members, finances is in order to find out WHICH company bribed him !
Because for sure SOMEBODY is paying him off, either he took a bribe, in which case he needs to go to jail, or he is incapable of doing his job, in that case he needs to be fired with loss of benefits and fines for fraud.

Until this whole cover up stops I am totally opposed to giving a dime or any more power to an agency that has proved so abusive of the power and money they already have!

A tax revolt is in order to get the taxes we already pay doing some good, I don't think lies and spin and incompetence is worth what we are paying.
