Former Animal Control Officer Accused Of Killing Cat
Warning: This story may disturb some readers.
A former animal control officer has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty for allegedly killing a kitten that wandered into a bar. He slammed it against a door frame and threw it to the floor.
If convicted, he will face up to three years in prison.
Officials said they are uncertain why the Illinois man, Steve Skoklo, killed the three-month-old kitten.

This is not a man.

No reason is sufficient. Do they think they can rehabilitate him if they know he’s just been into the sauce or his allergies made him psychotic or he’d just had a bad day?

Scary ~ and he was an animal control officer? I pray that the animals he came in contact through that job never felt his rage as that poor wee kitten did. How horrible! Jail is way too good for this guy. There is NO excuse for his actions.
Godspeed little one. May you never know the hurt of violence again.

SKOKLO was also a FORMER POLICE OFFICER in MADISON.
Daddy was police chief.
“32 year old Steve “Danny” Skoklo used to be a police officer in Madison but resigned- his dad was the police chief for 10 years.”
“What makes this even worse is that Skoklo was the humane officer for Madison from May of 2005 until this past August.”

What is it with the string of police officers abusing/killing animals? How much goes on that we DON’T hear about where citizens are too afraid to turn in a cop for fear of retribution?

Cathy, yes sadly that IS man.
Just read any environmental magazine or website and you will see the same behavior just masked by a profit motive.
THAT is what we all are. Some of us have just evolved to appreciate and care for those creatures that seem to be less intelligent than we are.
I don’t see dolphins, squirrels, or other creatures killing off entire species and destroying another animals habitat for money or food for themselves,
THAT is what we are.

Does anybody believe this is his first animal to kill? It takes pratice to kill (instead of hurting it) any animal by slamming it against a door, imo. The AC (dog catcher) will get a slap on the hand, imo. The good wonderful people who own the bar & the patroons will be the ones to have the trouble, imo. Can’t help but wonder about the shelter in that area.

What a scumbag!!!! You know that this was not the first animal to be abused or killed by this devil. He was in a perfect position to unleash his hate on many in the past.
November 9th, 2007 at 9:34 am
This is one very sick man.
Wonder if he’s buds with Baber?
I dont get WHY people employ themselves around animals if they dont truly care for them.
What an idiotic psycopath.
Oh my gosh, the more I visualize this happening from an animal officer the angrier I get!!!

I just have to say, that defenseless baby kitten, trusting humans enough to enter some smelly bar, looking for protection, comfort, love and food, brutally killed by this person, is just sickening beyond belief. He deserves more than time. I feel he deserves death, and I don’t care what anyone else has to say in his defense.

I couldn’t even read past teh words “he slamed it into a door frame”.
You’ve read my posts here, defending people who forget pets, defening **little kids** (note, not teens) who may kill pets not really understanding death, you’ve read my posts saying hunters may need to learn how to deal with violent animals.
but this is out right SICK. it’s a kitten, hardly a threat - and the way he killed it. i mean, oh my god.
what makes humans like this tick?

Why do we always look for a “reason”? This two-legged maggot killed the kitten because he is a sick piece of garbage…..just another case of a moral retard and coward abusing the weak and powerless.

This man is garbage. Human refuse. Hope he gets what’s coming to him — SOON and PAINFULLY.

Ex-cop and animal abuser in prison? They’ll LOVE him there! And he’ll deserve every minute of it.

Carol! You are giving maggots a bad name!

Once again, another reason to be ashamed of my species!

Jenny Bark, 10 to 1 this is NOT his first incident. The earlier assault charge is a clue.
Geesh! I hope he’s not married and doesn’t have kids. If he does, Gods help his family!
That poor kitten. :(

Terrible as it is, this poor baby cat suffered far less than my cat did at the hands of the pet murdering scumbags at Menu Foods.
The big difference is the slimeballs at Menu Foods are walking around free without a single charge filed against them.

ANYONE who EVER deliberately injures or kills any animal needs to be put into an institution immediately - it is a fact that people who abuse animals will go on to injure or kill people - look at the pasts of every serial killer - they all have that in common.

Re Guthrie says: November 9th, 2007 at 2:31 pm “Ex-cop and animal abuser in prison? They’ll LOVE him there! And he’ll deserve every minute of it.”
I can only hope. Please let this happen.

I cry, the Lord knows I cry. What a waste of human flesh. Grrrrrrr… let me in a room with this guy and a very large bat, 5 minutes. An eye for an eye, you take a life, you give up yours. Period.

I can guarantee that this is not the first time that worthless piece of filth has killed an animal. Animal control officers are not necessarily part of the humane movement…some go into the job because they want an opportunity to kill. Whenever an animal needs to be put down (a “vicious” dog, etc)…it is these people who usually are called in to do it. The animal control profession attracts mainly two types of people…those who genuinely care for these animals and treat them with compassion and see the killing aspect of the job as the most difficult and unpleasant part of the job, and the brutal, sadistic types who are looking for an defenseless victim to bully and who go into the job JUST for the opportunity to kill. This piece of bile is the latter. What is wrong with our society is that the bastard will only get three years at the most…he should be eligible for (and receive) the death penalty…he is worthless. If he gets any less of a punishment, society is basically condoning this cruelty by only giving a slap on the wrist. And the sad thing is, we should be thankful for any jail time at all! A few years ago, he probably wouldn’t even have been prosecuted. Our society isn’t quite as progressive and enlightened as it thinks it is, and will not be until it sends a clear message that such senseless cruelty WILL NOT be tolerated. The death penalty (preferably) or at least significant jail time as a violent felon is the only way to do this.

I find it hard to visit ITCHMO, even though it’s a great site, because of so many stories of animal cruelty reported. But these things are happening, and though reading these stories ruins my day and makes me despise my species, it is necessary that these stories are put out there and made public so that these disgusting crimes are not covered up or forgotten. But I can guarantee that these all too common incidents would be greatly reduced if the perpetrators were given SIGNIFICANT punishment…their lives should either be ended or ruined for what they have done, just as it now is with convicted murderers. These people are just as bad as, or even worse than convicted murderers because their victims are ALL innocent. I will not listen to any defense of those who commit animal cruelty, even if they are little children. I believe that some people are just born evil and should be dealt with accordingly for the protection of the innocent.

Terribly disturbing - and more disturbing still is the knowledge that most of these freaks go unpunished, let off the hook, and even when they aren’t the “punishment” they are given is laughably small and serves only to encourage them to continue to cruelly kill animals anytime, anyway they please knowing that they will never face true justice.
These individuals need to be REMOVED from society, but instead, they have come to CHARACTERIZE our society and RUN our society.

Poodleluver . . .
The same reason pedophiles become preists, camp counselors, and teachers.
The same reason people with “anger management issues” become cops.
It’s all about proximity, opportunity, and trust — having a position that will put you as close as possible to your desired victims, yet at the same time, causes the public to trust you and believe that you could never do such a thing, and that you are a “protector” of those who are actually your victims.
Trust, access, opportunity . . . and getting off in their sick way.

This proves that there really needs to be mental testing for people around animals. Some people get a job like this just so they can be close enough to abuse animals, legally. There should be specific testing for people who want jobs where they will be in charge or in care of any innocents.
Children and animals are innocents and need to be protected from the ones who would do anything to be close enough to harm them.

Stefani and Julina, you’re both totally right. Change is needed…in the laws, and in the screening of those who are given these trusted positions. The first step, I think, is to convince our lawmakers that animals are more than just property…it’s amazingly ludricrous that these aware, thinking, feeling beings who have the intelligence of young human children would be regarded as nothing but property in the eyes of the law. No doubt some “special interests” are at work in perpetuating this nonsense. But I think (I dearly hope) that in the near future the status of animals will change for the better and the laws accordingly…we really need to make our concerns known to our legislators. We vote, and they need to remember that. In the meantime, if that bastard Skoklo doesn’t get what he deserves in this lifetime, I sincerely hope there is a truly hot place in the deepest recesses of Hell for him one day and that he spends eternity there in agony while the kitten he murdered runs and plays in Rainbow Bridge. That would be true justice.

Justice……………I need two big men, about 250 lbs each 6ft 5 in. Job needed to “handle” animal murder. Wrong is wrong. Killing the helpless…….no excuses accepted. A brute only understands one language. You can not “teach” this type of mentality. It is always ingrained. Any volunteers for the “justice” treatment ? Just “toss” him into a door frame ten to fifteen thousand times. If he lives though it, shoot him. What a waste of air. Donate his organs to a deserving person.”Humans” like this make me sick.
