Well, Kirk, simply put: Wrong. We have 8 cats & I am a very outgoing, friendly person. I’m the kind of person who talks to everybody at a party (or anywhere really) & is often the center of attention. I’ve always had multiple cats and lots of dates (when I was single) & friends. So, I’m far from the typical cat lady. In fact, it is only my chronic illness that slows me down now.

My boyfriend likes cats but is allergic to them and won’t get allergy shots(afraid of needles) or take medicine for allergies. I have told him though that he should never make me choose between my cats and him because my cats will win.

My cats love me no matter what and will be with me until they are old. Boyfriends/fiances/husbands will be there unless they decide they want to breakup and find maybe someone better etc.

Cats rule, men come and go!

But you have to admit that pets reflect part of a person’s personality. For example: People who love to travel the world, don’t usually have pets. So if you are dating someone with no pets, you can assume that it is certainly going to be easier to travel. Like minds think alike. And regarding the “cat ladies”… that is more about the idea that they have nothing else really going on in their lives. Of course it’s a stereotype, but as a rule of thumb, a person with 6 cats is probably not the most gregarious, adventuresome type right?

I agree with all above. My boyfriend and I are both “love me, love my dog” people, so we get along just fine! If he didn’t like dogs, he and I would not be together. Plain and simple.

Well said…by all of you. I love my two kitties so much. I don’t have children, don’t want any….therefore my kitties are my children. My boyfriend is extremely allergic to kitties but he’s currently getting 4 allergy shots twice weekly! He’s doing this for me because he loves me and my kitties and it’s called “compromise”. I could not imagine having any - one - friend in my life who weren’t true animal lovers. People who don’t like animals don’t have love in their hearts.

My husband and I are happily married in part because we didn’t compromise on the important stuff. Pets are part of the package.

We have four cats and a dog and we’re very, very happy.

When I was single, I found out quickly if a guy hated cats or not. If he did, then he was gone becuase I couldn’t imagine spending the rest of my life without my kitty companions. I couldn’t imagine trying to make someone who truly hated cats spend the rest of his life stuck with mine either - not good for him or the cats. I don’t think this is a relationship problem…it is a compatibility problem. The same issues occur in many couples with different tastes…pets, smoking, sports, drinking, music, cleanliness, food. Successful relationships are based on like interests & compromise. Pets are no more of a detriment to relationships than any other way of life. You just have to find the right person.

My husband and I have a wonderful marriage based on compatibility and love. We have 8 cats & see all the football games together that we can. We have separate interests but both try to understand, or at least to be tolerant of the other’s likes, so it all works.

I now only want to be with someone who has a respect and love like mine for animals. Someone who does not love animals and have a caring relationship with animals is not a compassionate human being, period.
