Um, I don't think I'd feel too good if prison inmates were looking after my lost pet. Murderers and abusers start out on animals and move to humans. How is it a good idea to put the fox in charge of the chicken coop?

Seems like a good idea on the surface.
I suspect that there is more to it than is being reported to the public. HSUS has probably struck a deal much like Noah’s Wish did. http://www.catchannel.com/News/noah-wish-investigation.aspx It is estimated that HSUS raised over $30 million in the wake of the Hurricane Katrina disaster, promising to use the funds to rescue and reunite lost pets with their owners. Since March 2006, the Louisiana Attorney General’s office has been investigating what happened to the majority of those funds.

It is interesting to note that HSUS has never built a shelter. In 1995 HSUS offered to build and run a shelter in DC. In exchange they wanted 3-5 acres of city land and tax-exempt status for all HSUS real estate holdings in the District of Columbia. The DC government offered a long-term lease, but that wasn’t acceptable. HSUS refused to proceed unless it would own absolutely the land. The district declined.

So now when their back is against the wall being under investigation for fraudulent fundraising in Katrina, Rita and now Vick, we are supposed to believe that they are going to be in the business of building shelters. I don’t happen to think that they are doing this for any other reason than Noah’s Wish is doing it, to say out of jail. Will this be a no-kill shelter????

Oh, that's such utter and total crap.

Are we really supposed to believe that the HSUS is doing this just out of the goodness of their hearts? I'm sure it has nothing at all to do with the investigations and pending lawsuits about the money HSUS raised in the name of the "Katrina Animals" - and yet didn't bother spending on them.

Sort of the same way they 'raised money' to "help the Michael Vick case dogs", and then lobbied ruthlessly to have the same dogs euthanized.

The HSUS are thieves and moral cowards, and their despicable actions are finally coming to light. I hope their donations dry up and blow away.
