If you cannot offer a cat a space to go outside, keep an animal that doesn't mind being jailed 24/7!

You only need to look at my happy 12-year old neutered male cat sitting in his garden enjoying the sun to know how cruel it is to lock a cat indoors -- most of those indoor cats end up unfit and neurotic, a sorry shade of what they could have been had the been treated right. Of course, if you've never known a proper cat that can go out when she wants, an indoor cat may seem quite normal to you -- please make an effort to find a proper cat owner and see the difference in happiness that a free-range cat enjoys. You will never want to incarcerate a cat again!

I commend you Bobbette. I too had to re-home my Bengal's because I could only keep 5 animals and had to maintain a kennel license to have over 5. So, no Fostering for me, no Pet sitting in my home for me, and I had to give up my dog. I had someone drive from DesMoines Iowa to Crystal, Minnesota to get my 2 Bengal's and I keep in contact with them so I know they have a good home. Saddens I had to give them up they are my babies. And Animal Control could care less. Someone lied and stretched the story to see me fail and the most they could do was call Animal Control to say I had sick cats. they knew how to get to me! So I am glad you are in a situation where you can have and help all those kitties. I would be right there along with you. Up here they would call it hoarding. I want to know your secret!

This is a wonderful story. What a wonderful woman.

I agree with Merlin about home visits; however, I'm guessing this is one savvy woman. She probably knows how to screen people pretty well. Also, it may be deliberately hard to reach her--that may be part of the screening. ;)

A woman this wise and wonderful MUST have a system of some sort!

I agree! I would love to donate to this woman's work!

God bless you Bobbette for your efforts! And if these comments reach you why don't you give people a way to send donations? Perhaps the local paper who published the story would let you use their address.

Way to go! I wonder how she gets information out about her cats. I saw only a phone number but no website listed. That is a phenomenal number of cats adopted out - it would be nice to know how she does it and if any of her methods could be adapted to shelters.

Linda's Cats, sometimes things like home visits are important. I don't think an animal should be adopted into a filthy house with too many neglected animals already. Or that cats should be adopted into a house with unsocialized hunting breed dogs that might look at the cat as lunch. Or to people who are going to feed the cat or small dog to their pet snake. And sometimes a home visit can make an iffy application turn out to be a good one.

As for the kid issue, I don't think its a good idea to adopt a tiny kitten to a family with unruly kids who might injure the kitten by throwing a heavy object on it, tossing it out the window or beating it. Kids like that should not be allowed to have any kind of pet.

Most shelter rules have evolved from horrible experiences and are there for a reason. That said, I don't think rules should be inflexible, and there should be a procedure to allow exceptions to rules.

I love that her only adgenda (and criteria) is that the cat be an indoor cat. No "home visits", no comments about # of children, or other silly nonsense that I see from time to time in private shelters/rescues.

And she probably mostly funds this from her own pocket. This is the kind of woman I wish i could help support. Maybe she has a web page or something !

Hugs to her and all her tiny mouths she feeds !
