Candace Schilling spent more than a decade in corporate communication roles. Previous career incarnations include communication strategist, trainer, public affairs specialist, instructional designer and editor. After too many days in an ever-shrinking cubicle, she began freelancing in 2004. Although she dedicates most of her time to writing internal communication pieces and ad copy for small and large companies, Candace has also produced more than 100 articles.
You may remember her Itchmo tribute to Kisses (pictured here), a Himalayan who became another pet food toxin fatality in May. Candace continues to fill her shelves with pet books and her brain with information about animal health, nutrition and other issues.
Two kitties benefit directly from her research: an orange tortoiseshell tabby DLH named Laverne (a.k.a. Vernie) and a tiny blue cream Persian who answers to Beatrice. Vernie greeted her new “sister” with little enthusiasm until she noticed their shared interest in bird-watching. Candace enjoys yoga, feeding local wildlife and watching cats who watch birds. She also has a passion for cooking and an unquenchable thirst for teas from jasmine to pu-erh. Her husband Tim completes this Illinois family.
In another lifetime known as ‘the late 90s,’ Candace served as a state and federal lobbyist for a non-profit trade association. Most of her work for Itchmo will focus on pet-related legal topics.
