Jacksonville Humane Society Destroyed By Fire

LuckyOn Saturday, April 7, the Jacksonville Humane Society was destroyed by a fire. There were 176 animals in the shelter at the time, and unfortunately, 95 out of the 100 cats in the shelter and a number of dogs died.

One cat was actually buried under the rubble and when crews were searching the debris, he popped out of the duct work and only walked away with a bad cough and some singed whiskers, but he will be okay. He has been named Lucky (pictured here).

The Jacksonville Humane Society is estimating renovations will cost about $1 million and is looking for any financial donations. If you would like to donate, you can either make an online donation or donate at any Wachovia Bank branch or you can send it in to 8464 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32216. When donating, please reference account number 2000034081857 and the Jacksonville Humane Society Fire Rescue. So far, over $30,000 has been donated to the organization. Our hearts and thoughts go out to all of the brave animals.
