I have a stray cat that I took in about 4 weeks ago. I thought I was doing a good thing helping it out, boy was I wrong. The cat hates other animals if it even sees a animal outside the door it goes nuts, it loves people though ! Now I have a stray that I can't get rid of and that I can't keep since I do have other animals and it is scaring the living daylights out of them. So what are my options, according to the shelters and the humane society either keep it or let it back into the wild. The shelters are too over crowded and want nothing to do with a cat that is not spayed or neutered. I can't afford to get it fixed to give it up and I can't afford to keep it because it is runnign our other animals away. Any suggestions I do not want it to be killed it is too nice to people for that, so my best option would be to bring it back to the streets that I found him.

Out here in the country, our "animal control" officer was a contract employee. He gets X amount of dollars per animal he takes in, keeps for three days, and then shoots. Dogs get him more cash so he takes the cats to his brothers farm and sets his hunting dogs on them.
I mistakenly called him one time, not knowing this, in regards to a cat who looks just like the one in the picture. {Stupid F$%$#@rs are always dumping off their unwanted pets or pregnant critters since they don't have the BALLS to get take them to the humane society or city pound.} I had this dope come out and before he loaded said cat onto his truck, I asked him what he was going to do with her, how long she'd stay in the shelter, etc. He told me the above story himself...
I told him I would keep the cat for my daughter if that was what he was going to do and shooed him off my land. I took the cat to the city shelter, lied about where I lived, and made she she was adopted (called daily). I know the people who got her because I sent them over there to get her once they came back into town. I couldn't really keep the cat as all of us are allergic to cat dander (not dogs, thankfully, so we can have some furry pets around).
I had a chance to speak to the county vet and told her what this cretin said to me. She had his contract yanked immediately and now they send the animals to a REAL shelter...

Have the owner contact an animal communicator. This cat could be found. As far as the shelters. They leave a nasty taste in my mouth. They paint "nice pictures" for the public. But if you dig deep..............it's not about saving lives. It is animal control. Like a priest showing up to your house to bring comfort. Then he kills you. No kill is the only groups to support. The rest are very sad situation for ANY pet to be placed in.Blessings to all that suffer at the hands of mankind.

I would have been glad had it been my cat. If the cat was accepted by the shelter it could have been euthanized. Some don't wait for owners to calim them. It is horrible she did not get her cat back but for me, I would be happier knowing my baby was still alive out there.

as we have seen from a previous itchmo post( wherein people who turned their cats over to a shelter then had second thoughts only to find out the animals were 'euthanized' rather quickly-)with the huge cat populations in shelters and the end of the kitten season, more cats are put down sooner then later to make room. if they had kept the cat ,they may well have euthanized it. there just isn't any shelter space. they probably sensed he belonged to someone near where he was found and figured he had a better chance of becoming ' unlost' or recognized then being really lost amid the crowd in the sad, overrun ,understaffed environment of a municiple shelter-not a place flush with funds.

Actually, what is "dumb" is thinking that they have a chance on the street if they're not feral - this cat did not sound like a feral! I've picked them up in pieces off the street for the past 25 years - shot, stabbed, set on fire, starved, severe URI that they were suffocating from, used as Pit Bull bait, hit by cars. It is irresponsible and dangerous to encourage people to leave helpless dogs and cats on the street!!

I'm actually glad they release cats back into the wild. If they didn't - guess what? They probably would have to euthenize MANY MANY more cats per year. Cats who are fully able to live without people (unlike wild dogs that can be dangerous.) As long as they neuter them to keep populations down, this is much more preferred then a shelter having to put cats down because they don't have the space to house them all.
Always assume that if you take an animal to a shelter that it has a high liklihood of being euthenized. It is dumb to think you are "saving" a cat that has a better chance at survival on the street then taken to a shelter.

I'm not sure if this was true in Horowitz's case, but it bears repeating:

GO TO ALL THE ANIMAL SHELTERS IN THE AREA EVERY SINGLE DAY IF YOUR PET IS LOST. DO NOT RELY ON A CONVERSATION WITH PERSONNEL OVER THE PHONE. DO NOT ASSUME THEY WILL PUT THE ANIMAL UP FOR ADOPTION OR HOLD IT FOR THE LEGAL NUMBER OF DAYS. [3 days in some states might translate to 24 hours and two minutes.] DO NOT ASSUME THE MICROCHIP ID EMBEDDED IN YOUR PET HAS BEEN SCANNED.

That's outrageous! What kind of moron would put a cat back into the street after it's been rescued FROM the street?????? I'm glad Ms. Horowitz has taken on the lack of Connecticut's cat regulations and I'm very glad that she got her cat back! I can only hope that the poor cat that was put back into the street is picked up by a smarter, caring individual!
