mittens - enough with your Jesus crap already! Why can't you forgive this person? You wanted to forgive the guy who "married" a dog. I quote you from that article:

the man is attempting to atone for his horrible deed- i hardly think it’s anyone’s place to condemn him for making a public display of his desire to both admit his guilt and do something positive to prove he acknowledges the error of his ways.

so many people who apparently have never done a thing wrong in their lives sitting in judgement…particularly of another culture that takes the concept of karma far more seriously and pointedly then we do in the west. people are very good about blabbing about the alleged ‘ karma’ of others when in fact they have never explored the concept of mercy and forgiveness in their own lives if it involves anyone else but their own not so sweet selves. it’s one thing to thoughtlessly kill an animal and be forced to pay some petty fine (if that) and go on in life being a miserable cruel bastard. here’s someone publically- without being forced to-exposing themselves and swearing to go forward and never repeat the offense they acknowledge as wrong- actually being sorry for what one has done and showing it had a negative spiritual impact on your being.

after decades on earth and exposure to the baseness of humanity i have often thought that marrying one of my cats would probably be a far better bet then wasting my affection and time on fickle selfish morally suspect humans.

I guess you're not as righteous as you think!

The implications of the article are that he did not care for his pet. The pet had numerous medical issues - paralysis being just one of them - for which it apparently received no care. Had the owner been able to prove otherwise, the pet would not have been seized. Rest in Peace, precious one.

I've had various animals who were unable to walk at the ends of their life and one rabbit who was basically completely paralyzed for two years (and yet still had moments when she was happy!). Before passing judgement on this man, I would want to know.

1. Did he ever consult a vet about the dog's condition? If not, then yes, send him to hell. If he did, what did the vet say? In the case of my rabbit, two vets basically threw up their hands and said, "I give up; you're doing a good job caring for her."

2. Was the dog's condition improvable? Sometimes nothing can be done. Then, it comes down to one of two beliefs. Some believe an animal is better off dead than in any pain or discomfort (but they usually don't believe the same for the human animal) while some (like me) believe that it's better to be alive and in some minor (not talking about major) pain or discomfort than dead. When I've had dying animals, they are on fluids and pain killers in most cases. I let nature/God kill not myself.

3. Did he care for the dog? Did he feed her right, medicate her sores, give her a soft bed, give her pain killers or fluids, and so on? If not, he certainly should never have any animals in his care.

now here's an example of someone who should be stoned to death- the guy clearly didn't give an f!, although warned( i'm disturbed they didnt take the dog from him sooner- look at the poor boy. it's an outrage.) and then was forced to pay fines when it was finally too late for that poor creature who died suffering. no real atonement, no reflection on how wrong what he did was. people should be punished severely for this sort of behavior- beyond fines i am certain. however, sincere efforts at begging forgiveness and clear indication of a motivation for seeking such forgiveness that's not motivated by avoidence of penalties needs to be encouraged and supported and , of course, verified.people have a right to prove themselves worthy of forgiveness or so the christians say jesus told them. when someone breaks that trust and is not truely repentant or never was repentant at all then they need the harshest punsihments and withdrawel of mercy. this guy had many chances to redeem himself- too many. i have no sympathy whatsoever for him.

Why didn't the authorities intervene sooner if they were checking to see if this man got medical care for his dog "numerous times"? That poor, poor dog.

I'm with Karla. Too many people have compassion for people who abuse animals & people.

This is a very sad story. I wonder why the man didn't do anything to help?

Any person who can't afford sufficient medical care for animals or children simply should not have them.

This poor animal is in a better place.

This is a very sad story. I have an almost 13 year old shepherd who started losing his ability to use his back legs. I took him to the vet and we got him on a good diet last year. He is now a good weight. I have him on good food, got him on Metacam for arthritis, pain pills, peptcide AC for digestion and glucosamine tabs. He is doing very well and all his blood work comes back great. He walks better (still difficulty sometimes getting up and down but I help when he needs me to) and he loves for me to walk him. I cannot imagine doing nothing for him like this person did....very very sad to hear of this story.

Why not ban him for life? This man should never be allowed to own another animal or be around them again. Impose the same boundaries on him as a child abuser.

What a heartbreaking picture! That poor dog!

I'm glad the judge in this case banned the POS who neglected his dog like this from owning animals, but instead of making it temporary he should be forbidden to own any animal for the rest of his LIFE. Someone who can let his dog suffer so much isn't going to turn himself around and become a responsible and caring owner no matter how many years go by.
