Denver businessman Scott D. Clark has been charged with one count of felony animal cruelty for killing a duck that lived at the Embassy Suites Hotel in St. Paul, Minnesota on Saturday.
According to authorities, Clark trapped the duck that resided in the hotel lobby’s ornamental pond. He then grabbed it and ripped the duck’s head off while hotel security guards and onlookers watched. Clark then turned around and told the people in the lobby: I’m hungry. I’m gonna eat it.”
Police officers said that Clark was allegedly drunk.
When Clark was arrested, he said he worked for the federal government and asked if he was in trouble. When he was told he was, he responded: “Why, because I killed it out of season?”
Hotel employees said the duck was one of eight specially trained ducks that were purchased for $400 each.
If convicted, Clark could face up to two years in jail and a $5,000 fine.
