Mittens - that wonderful! I never realized that a feral cat would learn from a tame one. You've done a great thing adopting the sisters.

Unfortunately, my two young cats have had some pretty high vet bills (they were both street strays but not feral). But, I wouldn't trade them for the world. Its just that sometimes people don't realize that taking care of an animal can have costs beyond food and toys.

i have 2 tortie feral sisters. i went to the rescue to see one older cat and i saw the two of them hiding under a chair, nearly on top of each other and i knew i had to take them both. they were frightened but still curious and clearly devoted to one another- they still give these odd nudging looks to one another-it's very funny to see. they have entire voiceless conversations with their eyes and nods of their heads. mostly it involves sizing me up.

they are absolutely the sweetest creatures and they get friendlier each day. theyre madly in love with my elderly torbie and follow her around making moony faces at her. i have never heard them growl. at first i questioned whether i could really take responsibility for trying to tame 2 very withdrawn ferals but now i can't imagine my home without them. i have 5 cats now- my high point was 6-and it's only with having the previous 5 enter advanced old age at once that i've had any serious vet bills.

i see the effective my other cats have had on the ferals- they've helped teach them how to play and trust. i dont think they would have advanced in trusting me if they didn't have my other cats as examples. my other cats taught them how to trust humans far better then i ever could have.

I live with 5 cats (obviously) and the youngest 3 are littermates that I've had since they were 3 weeks old. They are a bit more work, but when the time came, I couldn't separate them. I'm glad now, too, because they are so happy to be growing up together (they're now 4 years old). I think this is a terrific idea. Hope we can get an update to see it worked out.

What a wonderful idea. I'm also a firm believer that two cats are better than one. Everyone needs a buddy. I think having bonded pairs is incredibly rewarding.

Fantastic. If someone doesn't have any cats they can adopt two without having to deal with worrying about whether the cats will get along. And I would think that animals with a buddy tend to be more confident and can make the adjustment to a home easier.

The only thing I disagree with is the statement that 2 cats require little extra care. Hmmm...OK that might be true with feeding, but you'll need to give each cat individual attention, clean the litter box(es) more often and let's not forget about those vet bills. Still, for those who have the time and can afford it, two cats are a lot of fun.

What a great idea. Works with dogs too. My two schnauzers get distressed if separated.
