Miami Police Sergeant Charged With Killing His K-9 Dog

Warning: This story may disturb some readers.

A police officer has been arrested on the charge of killing Duke, his K-9 dog. Last year, the man was accused of killing his dog when Duke suddenly collapsed during a training exercise. Eyewitness accounts and testimonials said that they saw the police officer kick Duke numerous times, and then Duke convulsed and became lifeless. A medical examiner said that the kicking caused a lethal disturbance in Duke’s cardiac rhythm. The police officer was charged with animal cruelty and killing a police dog and he will be relieved of his duty without pay.

If the person who had killed this police dog been a suspect, they would have been up on more severe charges and in prison. That’s where this dog’s “partner” belongs.

  2. Monika says:

Totally agree with Gindy. Prison. Even if it wasn’t a police dog. Prison. Abuse an animal go to jail.

  3. KAEfamily says:

Just the kicking should be a crime in itself!

  4. k says:

Arrrgh, this guy should be in jail at the very least. When will animal cruelty laws be strengthened so that this kind of thing is taken seriously? Never mind; the laws will never be strengthened sufficiently, because the livestock lobby won’t allow it because of the risk of their members being accused of cruelty toward the animals they slaughter for our food. What a Catch-22.

  5. Monika says:

How about keeping the laws seperate? You can have a livestock law (which I definitely think needs to implemented - if you’re going to slaughter an animal and use it as food the least you owe it is respect, this is something that is not even considered, it’s so barbaric) and you can have a domesticated animal law or pet law or just plain animal law and this would apply to all animals that are not bred for the purpose of slaughter.

I wish I was smart enough or had the patience to become a lawyer - I would deftinitely fight for animals and the environment - two areas of abuse that to me seem to allow people to get a way with murder (literally and figuratively)

These are the people we pay to keep us safe………

  9. Susan says:

These are the guys we call when a neighbor is mistreating a dog….

So, this police ?? man ?? kicks his partner, when he is on the ground, COLLAPSED !! This dirtbag should never again be allowed to wear a policeman’s uniform—after he serves jail time !!!!

  11. KarlaSanDiego says:

WHY?? Why doesn’t our system take animal abuse seriously. Why are people allowed to get away with this disgusting behavior with basically just a slap on the hand. Gerry’s right, he is a PIG and needs to be treated as such.

  12. Monika says:

Let’s leave pigs out of this - I think they deserve to be treated much better than they are so (as I pointed out above) so I hate to see the comparison and to use the word in terms of cops - it’s actually an offense to all pigs who, given the room, are clean intelligent animals.

Let’s just say call the cop what he is: a vile, hateful, angry CRIMINAL who should be treated as such (as all others are when they harm a police dog). Also, the punishment should be steeper still for the cop because like someone pointed out above, this was his partner.

  13. Gerry says:

Monika..You are right! I love pigs. They are one of my favorite anaimals. In fact I have a collection of them. I guess my 60s slang got the best or worst of me. It is just so much worse to me when a officer of the law[if that is what we should call this guy ] does something like this. Sorry piggys

  14. Monika says:

    Gerry, Karla,

I know it’s hard to seperate the two and I know how often people are apt to blurt out PIG! when they’re mad at cops and I hear it all the time. I wonder how it originated? haha.. Maybe from dirty cop/ dirty pig?

  15. Gerry says:

Come to think of it Pigs really do get a bad rap! Bad cop..pig, dirty person…pig, cheating boyfriend..pig the list goes on. A pig is much smarter , cuter and more trustworthy than a cheating man [or woman for you fellas out there} lol…..

  16. Gerry says:

Hey..what about RATS. My daughter has a hairless rat and it is the cutest and nicest little critter. Remember the old gangster movies…you dirty dirty rat! So pigs arent the only animal that gets the bad rap. lol…

  17. Monika says:

The rats did spread the Bubonic plague, so perhaps the dirty associated with them is a little more valid. Haha.. They also can be found eating just any garbage and hanging out in it. I did read an interesting book titled, what else, RATS by Robert Sullivan. It did make me feel for them a little bit but what I learned most from it is how hard it is to eradicate them. Rats are the ultimate survivors.

  18. 3FURS says:

The rats ( which I am terrified of ), didn’t spread disease to deliberately hurt anyone. That ??policeman???? did deliberately hurt and KILL an already defenceless animal. An animal, who by the way probably saved that useless piece of trash’s life before.

  19. petslave says:

so this guy kills his dog & on the other post the cops kill a pit bull then beat up the owner. do they TRAIN these guys to hate dogs & kill them every chance they get??!!?? I posted this link on the other forum about the horrible stuff they did during the katrian aftermath, very disturbing:

  20. Bill says:

thanks for the link. I just ordered my “not without my pets” t-shirt!

  21. Anonymous says:

Argh! I hate people like that! Your dog collapses while training and so you kick him?!? Is that going to solve anything? No. I agree with k. This guy should spend a little time in the slammer.

  22. Bill Compton says:

Hi Jim. Photos i received. Thanks

  23. DAYLE ANN says:

He should burn in hell for doing such a cruel thing to an animal!!!! Just because he is a cop he should not be treated better. He should go to jail so he could really think about the unhumaine thing he did. He is nothing else than an animal abuser and should be treated as one.
