Yes, perhaps there is be a better way of bringing the dog along, but this is not deliberate cruelty. His carrier was securely attached to the car with a windshield. What Michael Vick and his friends did was cruelty. I'm still voting for Romney. He is the best choice for president!

Someone call Bob Barker. If Bob Barker thinks this is animal cruelty, which I have no doubt he does, there is no question that it is.

This Romney guy currently laughs it off, claiming that the dog loved it & that his family loves his dog. This is sad and scary and sickening.

Clearly this guy has a problem.

Animal cruelty by a grown family man in his thirties is the biggest RED FLAG that danger lurks very near and definitely disqualifies this individual as capable of providing the healthy leadership America needs. BE WISE VOTERS.

I had dealings with Mitt Romney during the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. He took over the games when they were spinning out of control and riddled with corruption. He straightened out a dismal situation and demonstrated both faultess character and incredible skill and optimism as a manager.

I have 3 dogs including a pound puppy who has gone to work with me every day for 14 years. To say I am a dog lover would probably understate my attachment. I am also a hunter (as are my dogs). I am sure many of the message posters would condemn my use of dogs in bird hunting as "cruelty to animals". I obvously disagree with that position.

In the 60's we let our dogs hang their heads out the car window at 60 mph. We them ride unrestrained in the back of pickup trucks. Few of us would do those things now. We were unaware that this could case eye damage or injury. We didn't harbor a satanic desire to harm dogs.

My gut feeling is you folks wouldn't have much of a problem if Ted Kennedy had abandoned and drowned his dog (along with poor Mary Joe) when he drove off that bridge in a drunken stupor many years ago. Come to think of it - not many years removed from the "Romney animal cruelty" story you are obsessing over.

The key words here are probably "Republican" and "Morman", not animal cruelty.

I agree with everyone on here.. and being from Mass, I know Romney is dumber than a fencepost. He's vacant, vapid and after watching and listening to him up here in Mass for years... I think the guy does have something wrong with him. If he gets elected... he will fall in with all big business and won't give a rats ass on the roof of a car what happens to our food, our pets food or for that matter anything that doesn't have big bucks attached to it for the benefit of the powerful and wealthy. I say lets strap this loser to the roof and when he has a gastrointestinal attack... lets skip hosing him down. He should have been arrested for animal abuse/neglect and he now wants to lead this country???? Where do these nutbags come from?

I just heard about this story today on the Warren Ekstein show. This is the actions of someone who is totally out of his mind.. what was he thinking? think about it.. he doesn't have a brain. I will absolutely NOT get my vote no matter what. Bring him to MN where I live and we will strip him buck naked in the dead of winter, like January where the temps go down to 40 below zero and I will hose him down and let him stand outside and freeze. I am so angered by this story I could throw up!! I agree CATwoman, he is unfit to scoop my cat box too or scoop the poop from my dog. Keep him out of office!!!!

Someone should strip this idiot buck naked in February and put his arse on top of an suv and drive about 70 mph down the Interstate...no goggles or further protection. Just a rope to hold him down. What a dingbat!!

Of course that fool is making light of his hugely insensitive and inhumane treatment of his dog---he thought it was OK at the time to treat the animal in such an atrocious way and he clearly still does! His wondering what "all the fuss is about" speaks volumes about his character! I just wonder what other cruel treatment that poor animal went through---I have a feeling this wasn't a one off experience and it must have been a very bleak and unhappy life for the poor little thing. What gets me is the fact that people will still vote for the boob regardless!

get real, there is absolutely no comparison to the family trip you describe and romney's idea of what is appropriate for a family pet. do you imagine that if one of your family members was in obvious distress that your parents would have behaved as romney did?

my family also took many long car rides when i was growing up... very few with the dog because he really didn't like to travel. my parents were not idiots, so on those occasions when our dog did come with, he was actually in the car with us and not on the roof. i can assure you that if any of my siblings or our pet ever developed a case of raging diarrhea, neither of my parents would have considered reacting in the way romney did. guess they wouldn't have been considered good crisis managers. they weren't perfect, but at least they weren't cruel.

i'm amazed that people talk about the past as though nobody alive at the time had a shred of common sense or an ounce of compassion. i'm also amazed that people seem to think that cars were in some primitive state... they were actually a lot more comfortable than today's cars, albeit a lot less safe. we simply used the technology available to us. sure it's different now, but we had no right to be deliberately cruel then, and we don't have that right now.

"I have a lot of good memories growing up. Oh yea, we did bring along the family dog."

Did you strap the dog to the roof and have it loose it's bowels in terror? I had many trips similar to yours with pretty much the same trek. Family pets were IN the car though. heh, crossing the desert before sunrise in the summer, due to lack of AC, those were the days!
