I haven't forgotten either. I'm glad this vigil is being held, pets need to be remembered, they brought the depth of lack of human food safety to our attention.

One of the PFI companies had a new product on the shelf, labeled natural, something about it being steamed? first ingred. was chicken, second was corn gluten meal.... no way would I buy it. I will always home cook now.

I read the labels more closely, look to see where it comes from. Sometimes it requires a magnifying glass, or questions to the produce man. But, I'm glad that Itchmo and the bloggers have made me a more knowledgeable and safe buyer.

I haven't forgotten and neither have many of my friends. Just wanted to say that so others know that this is not just getting dropped and ignored.

Last week I was at Whole Foods and saw the Newman's Own pet food's new (to me anyway) packaging. Started to pick up a product to look at it more closely and then went "No" and moved on. I know many that have had similiar experiences.

I read labels before the pet food tainting and have for a few years now. After this debacle, I figure I can read better than the FDA, so I scour each label and put back any questionable item on the shelf without a second thought. There is nothing I need SO BADLY I'm willing to poison my family or myself while also financially supporting the very companies responsible for what I consider criminal business preactices.

I do understand that labels are not fool-proof. They are only as accurate as the info provided. The less "stuff" listed, the better is how I approach it!

The comments/observations here on Itchmo are great and thanks to those that have kept these threads going. Very enlightening!

You see these guys on TV pumping the food but not once have you seen their faces publicly apologizing for what their food did to so many pets.

Thanks to the FDA this has all been pushed aside. Back to business as usual for them "which means doing nothing".

What has the FDA has been busy doing?
FDA Clears for Marketing First Quick Test for Malaria
http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/NEWS/2007/NEW01659.html

Although malaria has been eliminated from the United States since the 1950s. "?"

That would have made since 48 years ago. A little behind boys! Wonder how much of our tax dollars & FDA's time went to approve this handy test kit? Yes, it's business as usual for the FDA. :-o

Let's mark our calendars and send some letters on that day too... and find out what our town is doing for this event. Our pet friends deserve our action.

I applaud them. They lost a friend and are not letting any of the animals lost to this disaster go unremembered. It's a tragedy and they get it in the most personal way.

This would be an opportunity for the B.B. and the Mc C's to do something that is a real case of animal cruelity. Buy, then again, if they don't get paid it might not be worth their while.

this is a good thing. with information drying up and interest waning, this vigil will remind people of what our pets have endured and why we never stop demanding change in the pet food industry and the agencies that regulate food safety.
