I refuse to let you kill any of my babies! Commercially produced pet food will never enter my home as long as I am alive! I don't trust or believe a word that you say or publish.

My favorite of all above..

RECOMMENDATIONS...
How about DEMANDS!
If any company does not follow these guidelines they will be FINED A MINIMUM OF $250K, FORCED TO REMOVE ALL FOOD FROM STORES AND BE SUSPENDED FROM SELLING ANY OF THEIR FOOD FOR A MINIMUM OF 90 DAYS AND THEN THEY SHOULD PASS INSPECTION BEFORE THEY ARE ALLOWED TO SELL AGAIN TO THE PUBLIC. That should be the 1st Offence. 2nd Offence - $500K and suspended from selling food permanently.

FORGET ABOUT THE RECOMMENDATIONS..
DEMAND YES...

Commercial pet food is over for the American consumer after the recalls of
2007. We know what by-products are, what rendered products are, and how the commercial companies don't safety test or inspect their ingredients. Consumers know pet food companies don't even guess at the
amounts of vitamins placed in pet foods. The Pet Food Institute finally allowed so much congealed chemical crap into the cans, bags, and pouches that it killed its own billion-dollar industry. The pet food companies
are now going to have to find another product for their garbage-disposal food waste from the human food chain.
The FDA/CVM needs to fire AAFCO, the PFI, and burn the Official Publication list of ingredients, processing, and labelling standards
and do their job, regulating pet food for the safety and health of
companion animals everywhere.

"Develop a model emergency response plan for the commercial pet food industry"

oh don't they already have that" plan" firmly in place? it's called deny, obfuscate, and blame the victim (aka the consumer).

Sounds like the pet food companies lost a lot of business and are now trying to figure out a way to put another spin on seeing how gullible we all are. Once burned, twice shy. Those of us home cooking will never go back, never. These companies lied for how long and now they want all the pet lovers to believe they are going to play with honesty and integrity?

The so called, "National Pet Food Commission" was a half baked farce from its inception. Talk about hiring a fox to guard the chicken coup!

I can't imagine anything more insulting to pet owners than hiring pet food lobbyists to discuss pet food safety.

I just cooked up a month's supply of cat food starting with .59 a pound turkey. That compares to approximately $2 per pound for commercial pet food. It's all meat for my favorite obligate carnivors, contains no cellulose fillers or indigestable grain products. I add vitamins to make sure they're getting all the trace elements they need, and they've never been healthier since I made the switch to homemade.

My longhaired cat was plagued by hairballs all his life on commercial pet food. I tried everything, but nothing worked. The problem vanished completely after switching to homemade.

Even when commercial pet food isn't poisoned outright, it's still pure garbage you wouldn't feed to your worst enemy. It breaks my heart into a million pieces that I used to feed that crud to my pets, knowing now how much they suffered as a result. I honestly didn't know any better, but it still makes me feel bad.

My last cat litter purchase included free pet food samples in the bucket. The samples are going into the garbage where they belong.

Ditto to everything said above. And, why would I trust a comission put in place by the PFI? Sounds like more PR strategy to me - they want to win over the masses. Not me. My dog is finally healthy, I could never take the chance of almost losing her again. I can't even look at a bag of commercial food without remembering what happened last March to my dog. I will continue to home cook.

We don't want your garbage. You don't deserve our trust. I recommend that you help pay off some folks pet vet bills and stop your worry about marketing analysis. It don't wash with us. Perhaps the next generation of consumer can be tricked into buying your poison. But it will be a long wait!

"The National Pet Food Commission (NPFC) recently made its recommendations to the Pet Food Institute."

Their recommendations sound like Basic Business 101. Pet food companies need to do their own risk analysis and create their own QA/QC protocols.

Relying on morons from NPFC and the PFI will ensure that NOTHING CHANGES.

Ditto all of the above.

You can't get much more basic and common sense than what the commission came up with. Hello!!!!? Those "recommendations" should have been the BASIC TENANTS of the pet food companies to begin with!!

Ollie never made it to his first birthday, but he will never be forgotten.

NO THANK YOU!!! Last Saturday my dog had a check-up and for the first time since the pet food poisoning, she is doing great because I finally figured out how to HOME COOK for her. NO MORE STRUVITE CRYSTALS!!! And she did not have to go on a prescribed commercial pet food diet (although recommended). She no longer vomits or has loose stools. I couldn't be more rewarded for the extra time and effort. I don't care what the PFI does, they lost me as a customer for good.

One thing that first comes to my mind, why wasnt any of this in place long long ago? Where was protection for pets at the get-go? To me, it just shows profit is their main concern. Another thing I didnt see in there is anything about listening and working with pet owners but oh I forgot, we are at the bottom of their concern list. And will any of it actually take place, to me, these are common sense things that shouldnt have taken a "commission" to come up with. It should have been what companies did to maintain good business ethics. Oh but there's the rub, ethics is not in their vocabulary.

"The NPFC was established by the P F I ..."

Enough said!

No thanks. You killed my dog. You will NEVER get your hands on another! I'll be homecooking for life, every single morsel that goes into their mouths... just a small promise I made.

My eyes have opened to the entire industry since you killed my dog... He would have had a birthday two weeks ago.
