All this information is really interesting I have my yorkie on Hill Prescription DIet food
W/D. Wet and dry and I would have to say that the dry food is making her drink so much water and urinate alot.. she seems to be getting heavier...plus 3 weeks ago could not walk
she was just lame and lifeless and took her to the vet and no one knew what was wrong even with blood test. Now I am starting to think that its her food...Any comments please

Hi I am trying to switch my kitties to chicken breasts and other human foods although they are still on hills c/d .. I think you can get a urine test to see what toxins are in the pets , you can get a small test set that includes beaded litter and a tube for the urine .. and syringe .. I have one as one of the older kitties has been sick but has improved ... it dosen;t cost as much as taking the pet into the vet ... hope this helps

I've been reading all the posts regarding Hill's dry dog food. I wasn't at all worried about my eight year old Lab, Lola, until last night. We had her boarded over the weekend (Easter). She came home last night and I found she had thrown up in several places during the course of the night and even now this morning. She appears to be lethargic and not even interested in food. Normally, she won't let you alone in the morning she's so hungry. I called my vet and he said that it's really only cats that have been affected and he would check Lola later today, four hours from now. I called the Doggy Daycare and they were VERY concerned since they had three dogs just this weekend diagnosed with kidney problems. We all supply our own food when the dogs are boarded so I don't know what kind those dogs ate. I haven't noticed any other symptoms except vomiting and lethargy. Should I be freaking out like I already am or should I not worry too much? My vet said he would test her for a virus first and just check her out. He really doubts it's about this recall. Now I'm not so sure. What tests should he preform so I'm sure she's going to be ok. Also, who do I report her illness to? She eats Hill's Science Diet Mature Adult Senior. A quick response with any advice would be greatly appreciated. Lola has been our baby for 8 years now and our five year old twins LOVE her! I can't imagine our family without her.

Kevin..I would not feed your cats any cat food.. I would give them tuna or just anything but pet food.. My poodle Princess died from eating Hill's Science Dry dog food and it has not even been recalled yet..But until I bought the new bag on March 10th she was perfectly fine..It doesn't take much to figure it out when she went through such a painful death..I'll never get over losing her.. I had her almost 12 years..I wrote to Hill's and they said maybe next week the phones won't be so busy and I can call them to discuss it.. What are they going to do, bring our Princess back to life.. Princess we love and miss you so much baby girl..

I have a question to the person who was feeding their cat the Hills c/d dry food. That is the food I am currently giving my two cats. They seem to be fine. I'm unsure whether to keep feeding them that.

Our cat Taeki died after eating a mix of Hill's Prescription Diet m/d and Hill's Prescription Diet w/d (changing over from one to the other). It was terrible. He had been with us since before we got married (12 years), a constant companion in the highs and lows (and there have been some very low lows) of our life, and his loss was devastating.

He died on March 16th, and we didn't know anything about the recall- even of the Menu Foods. When we compared his symptoms to those that were being reported for the Menu Foods deaths, they were identical. We called Hill's, and were assured that all of their food was perfectly safe and unaffected by the recall.

We called them again on 3/31 after the recall, and they didn't even apologize or express any sympathy for our loss. They told us we were "welcome to return the food for a refund or replacement." Talk about rubbing salt in our wounds...

To those who have had animals sickened by Hill's Prescription Dry foods, we *might* be working out a testing with a university. The university has agreed to test our food (we pulled some strings with connections), but there is a slight possibility that once set up they may be willing to test other foods, though I understand the demand far exceeds the supply of qualified testing organizations and the funds available to do the tests.

If you are interested in the slight possibility of maybe having your food tested, please post here or even better at http://www.gothamist.com/2007/03/17/pet_food_recall.php as that is where I spend most of my posting time.

So sorry for everyone's loss and/or the pain of sick family member. I so wish we had known how sick Taeki was...we just thought he had a stomach virus and didn't get him to the vet in time...so sad...

I have just bought a 10kg bag of Hills c/d, Im of which I am chucking whole bag away. I feel that these scientific brands do not deserve our support as consumers. They clearly do not have our animals best interest at heart, only our wallets in mind. Aside from their horrible support of ANIMAL TESTING, how can they authorise poisonous food into the market without having it tested?(stop importing wheat from CHINA altogether!!) We trusted you with the lives of our fury babies but instead your products have killed masses of loved pets out there. You have absolutely made a mockery out of yourselves and your brands. While you sit tonight with your family to eat a good meal, please think about those animals died due to meal time. I am so filled with utter disgust and anger. I will from now on keep to our trusted South African brand of food. My regards and thoughts to those out there who lost their beloved pets.

On March 10th,2007 I bought another bag of Hill's Science Diet Adult Small Bites of dry dog food for my almost 12 year old poodle "Princess"..She started drinking 8/20 oz bottles of water in a 24 hr period.. I took her to the vet and had lab and urine test done on her..Her Ketone and sugar levels were off the chart.. They gave her insulin and IV fluids and I brought her home the next day..Thinking that her food was fine I feed it to her and she started vomiting with bloody stools and drinking more water.. She couldn't hardly walk..So I took her to another Vet and they said that she was so far gone that I needed to have her put to sleep.. She died in my arms..I just know in my heart that it was the the "DRY" dog food...And I sent Hill's an email and asked them to pull it until it could be checked but they haven't..I feel just like someone has reached in my chest and pulled my heart right out...I love and miss my little Princess so much..The sad thing is that Princess was perfectly healthy until she started on her last bag of food that I had just bought..If I had it to do all over again I would not feed her ANY dog food dry or wet.. So I beg you all to take your dogs off DRY dog food because these people don't care and are just taking their sweeet time about checking it...Princess I hope you are healthy and happy playing in Heaven.. Mommy & Daddy miss you Angel..

Our 7 year old male cat has just been diagnosed with renal insufficiency. He was eating Hill's Science MD exclusively as directed by our vet. I just feel totally mislead by Hill's and our vet. I researched commercial pet foods and all the popular makers are owned by large corporations. We are now faced with dropping our cat off at the vets for 24 hours of IV fluids to hopefully flush out the toxins and get is renal function back to normal. We have already paid $150 for an exam and bloodwork and we can only imagine the upcoming and future bills. The biggest part is that our cat is not feeling well and we love him so. He is such a part of our little family and we would be heart broken if we lose him. We have saved a sample of the food plus pictures of the food bag before returning it to the vet's for the voluntary recall. We are also saving all of our vet bills and hope to get compensated. I now have both of beautiful cats on a natural food that is made locally here in Massachusetts. We have chosen Wellness Core which is high in protein and low in carbs without any grains. Best wishes to all pet owners dealing with this tragedy.

I have been in the tnr feral cat rescue now for over 11 yrs and just recently noticed allot of my cats/kittens getting sick, I just brushed it off as being a hair ball. I rely on my donations of food and so therefore have always been thankful for what I get to help with feeding my many colonies. I have noticed here the past few months that my indoor kitty's were getting sick allot, their urine has a very strong odor and I had been buying purina one for the indoor kitty's. Can anyone guide me to whom to contact in Florida about this? and if there may be another list of recall foods that I can look at? thank you, pj4lines@comcast.net

I have noticed here the past few months that my indoor kitty’s were getting sick allot, their urine has a very strong odor and I had been buying purina one for the indoor kitty’s. Can anyone guide me to whom to contact in Florida about this? and if there may be another list of recall foods that I can look at? thank you, pj4lines@comcast.net

Wake up cat people (dogs, too!). I'm buying only HUMAN foods for my 4 cats for the time being. Tuna, salmon, sardines, etc. Better safe than sorry! Prayers for you all for your little 'family' members . Irene.
