FYI - Goldfish can live up to 50 years.
If you go on vacation for less than a week, it's best to leave the fish without food. They can fast for a week without trouble. It's much better than contaminating their water with old and excess food.
Also, goldfish should not be kept in bowls; they need real fish tanks like most other fish. They produce lots of waste and that water needs to be filtered and airated. Likewise, they need room to grow.

i used to take my st.bernard-lab mix canoeing. his maiden voyage was rather tense... he didn't want to get into the canoe, and when a 150-lb. dog doesn't want to do something... well, let's just say that we and all our gear got a good soaking that day. he learned to love canoeing after that first trip and would dance with joy any time we put the canoe on the car. i never tried to take him to a commercial campground though. he had a knack for calamity, that dog, but he was a good boy and i have happy memories of our adventures... or more accurately, misadventures.

Wow, what's wrong with a good dog at family camp? I've camped across the country with my dog and had no problems. Some people have problem dogs - my rule - keep them quiet at night unless they are barking at a bear - then bark away!

After taking my dog, chiwawa/doxie mix, on a couple of camping trips, we are both agreed our idea of camping is a spa resort or bed and breakfast. Daisy may be a dog but she does appreciate the finer things in life, ie a bed to chew her bones on, sheets to crawl under and grass to piddle on.

Have you ever seen a squirrel crazed chiwawa/doxie run after a ground squirrel that was bigger and tougher than the dog? Or do you put a blinkie light on your dog, not so you can find the dog if it gets lost, but so you can identify the coyote whose stomach your dog is now residing in?
