Go to this website and write a letter to the Editor, proclaiming that the town's police force is barbaric and uncompassionate.

http://www.mlive.com/mailforms/sanews/letters/index.ssf/

Here's what I wrote - feel free to plagiarize or edit as you see fit.

"I just read about the officer who used a BB gun to shoot off a jar on a skunk's head.....AFTER a photo of the animal was taken.

Of all the assinine things I've ever heard of! Did the officer have no common sense at all? Somewhere out there a skunk is running around with a cut glass collar which has the potential to decapitate. Not to mention that the animal may have glass in his eyes, nostrils, mouth, and/or skin. It's a living creature, not target practice.

Taking a photo was obviously higher on the priority list than using available human resources to capture the animal and taking it to a veterinarian BEFORE shooting at the animal. As I understand it, this was decided upon in order NOT to run the risk of being sprayed.

I've never heard of anything so uncompassionate and totally lacking in brain power in all my life. If the Chief of Police has ANY sense whatsoever, he'll fire this officer and anyone involved. You should be ashamed of your barbaric law enforcement."

What boggles my mind is that someone had a camera on hand at that very moment and took the photo. Maybe a cell phone. Still, a PHOTO was the priority here????

Get real, cops, this is a living creature!

Not a smart man, but a very cute skunk. I hope somebody caught him to get the rest of the bottle off of him.

Good grief. I can't imagine doing anything so stupid as this. If the animal was in no danger of oxygen loss I would NEVER have done this. I would have captured the animal, driven it to a vet's office.

And now that poor skunk is walking around with a jagged collar that could potentially decapitate him! Not to mention the fact that there may be glass particles embedded in the eyes or skin or nostrils.

What's a little skunk spray amongst friends?
