It's a wonder he hasn't starved to death. Humans are all too often the real animals. A non-human would never do such a despicably cruel thing to another. Let's find the perps, pull all their teeth, and don't allow them dentures. They deserve even worse, but I'd settle for that punishment . . . along with a few years in the slammer.
