well i say yeah doing it yourself is cruelty to animal, but casturating on your own farm isn't.If u want your dog to have cropped ears then do it the right way. Go see a vet.

Unless ur going to actively do something to make a diference in thounsands of dog's lives, I think that u should shut up. There r ppl out here doing these things the right way n i dnt see anything wrong with ear cropping just like i dnt see anything wrong with curcumcisions. (when u think about the two, they r just a like...them getting this done have no say in it. Some disagree with the procedure all together, n at some point ppl have done it or attempted to do it themselves) Its not that bad ppl :)

Why do you think it's so hard to find a vet to perform the procedure? Because most vets are against the procedure being performed, even by a trained medical professional (who, by the way, could be making a lot of money to do the surgery, and chooses not to for ethical reasons) -- yet you home surgeons think it's okay for you to do it yourselves? Organizations that promote the humane treatment of animals, including the ASPCA (http://www.aspca.org/about-us/policy-positions/elective-cosmetic-surgery.html) and the Humane Society of the United States (http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/cat_care/declawing_cats_more_than_just_a_manicure/hsus_policy_cosmetic_surgery_on_animals.html), are specifically opposed to elective surgery performed purely for aesthetic reasons, and that's what this is. Bringing plastic surgery on humans into the discussion (not to mention abortion, for pete's sake -- way to show your humanity) is utterly idiotic.

Hey out there. I own pitbulls and we take VERY good care of them. I would have to agree with a few other guys out there. I don't think anything is wrong with cropping a dogs ears yourself. As long as you do it right and keep them clean with medication. As long as their small puppies the pain is very limited and ofcourse you have to keep an eye on them. We love our dogs and take VERY good care of them and I think nothing is wrong IF you know what you are doing. We have circumsized our babies for thousands of years. What is the difference with puppies ears??? What about focusing on abortion! Now that's cruelty! And no-one is ever convicted of that and that's a living baby!!! I think the Government is confused... Instead of focusing on people cropping ears they need to focus on abortion and the murder of our babies EVERYDAY!

All I have to say is would you circumcise you're own son??

It's all aesthetics, but ear cropping and circumcisions should be left to the doctors and health professionals.

I know dogs that live long lives w/ or w/o ear cropping, and the same goes for men with circumcisions.

I do not have my boxers ears croped but i am currently buying a doveman pincher whos ears i want to get done and i have found that in Ill it is imposible to find a vet to do it and when i found one it was more then i payed for the dog. but i would never try it myself. i belive we have the right to decide weather to do it or not but not ourselves. I belive he should be punished for doing it his self and not takeing care of it after he botched itand letting it get infected.

It is very hard to find a vet (in my area) that will crop ears. It used to be a very common and fairly inexpensive. But now days, if a vet is found, it is usually expensive. My schnauzer had puppies lastnight and I docked tails and dewclaws today, no problem. I am currently looking for a vet to crop the ears. But I am not finding anyone that wants to do it. I can understand what this guy is going through and I agree with Keith, I should have every right to crop my own dogs ears myself.

Animal cruelty? Why isn't everyone talking about the thousands of pitbulls the animal shelters kill just because its a pitbull? Sounds like descrimination and animal cruelty to me. The gov. is always trying to control things. If this man doesn't have the right to crop his dogs ears, then women shouldn't be allowed to have their bodies cut on either. Its only cosmetic!

the cropping is for asthetic purposes and with certain purebred dogs it is what is looked for in dog shows. I have a boxer who is going to give birth to puppies and you better believe ears and tails are going to be cropped. yes it was wrong for this man to do it himself but if the dog is still a puppy they feel limited pain and it tends to heal rather quickly. on the other hand if the dog was fully grown then the owner was a moron.
