Please excuse the double post. My hands have a bit of arthritis due to the tainted gluten I've eaten lately.

What about Doane Pet Care Company? They're a big contract manufacturer. Has any of their stuff been recalled?

Please FDA, don't ASSURE ME. Get out there and find those 792 metric tons of contaminated wheat gluten.

I'm new here, but didn't ITCHMO run a survey asking readers to report pet illness and food used.

Was that before or after FDA recalled more products? Maybe FDA is reading ITCHMO to find out where the tainted gluten went.

Hope I'm wrong, but I bet there's NO adequate tracking system to really know where the gluten went.

I agree, if government was the solution rather than the problem, you'd be able to look at that can of junk and tell WHO made it and WHERE it was made.

Both Purina and P&G have manufacturing plants in China. Purina has 1 or 2, and P&G has about 5 (not sure if all make pet food, though). I need to find that article again.

You'll never see "made in China" on a bag or can of cat food. In fact, the Purina Cat Chow bag doesn't say where it's made. That's 'cause these pet food companies want you to believe that Granny cooked it up in her kitchen.

Look at what you buy. Where IS it made? Country of origin info has disappeared from many labels.

Where are you FEDERAL GOVERNMENT? Please get off the biz jets with the lobbists and DO something for a change.

Just one person's opinion, but seems like our government IS the problem.

The politicians and their parties (both of them) are owned by lobbyists, so giving the government 'mo money won't solve the problem. However, it will create more government.

More government will create more problems, which will require more money, which will create more government. And on, and on.

We already have LOTS of government in our lives. Saw a stat that 10% of people work for the government in some capacity. That's a lot of folks.

I'm trying to get my local government to install a stop sign at a dangerous intersection (already 4 fatalities, in a very small town). GEEEZ, you'd think I'd asked them to build the Space Shuttle, or something.

Also, I've sent about a dozen email's to that FDA vet. No response. Not even one of those canned emails like I got from the pet food companies.

Maybe they're just too busy talking to the Pet Food Institute.

Sorry, didn't mean to get off the recall subject, but in my experience, the government's is definately NOT here to help us.

I am horrified to see how little the Human Drug industry has been self regulated.

Makes me sick....

Next time I hear some politician talk about tax breaks is the time I will not vote for that person.

It is pretty obvious that we are robbing peter to pay paul, too bad peter is our own infrastucture.

Like my cats care what they eat, I do however.

They rely on us for everything. Most people think I am nuts when I tell them that these are my kids, but thats the way I feel.

They don't require college tuition or education. But I do ensure they get the best possible care and food. There is nothing I would not do for them and yes they are part of the family.

As far as I am concerned if you mess with my family I am going to come back at you like a rabid dog. Yes indeed I am taking this very personal you bet. I vote and I pay plenty of taxes. In my mind it isn't enough taxes to do the job judging by how little the FDA has been funded.

Time for a change in how our federal government regulates this industry and the funds they have to do so (this includes human food as well).

If they can't do the job then we will just find someone that will, 2006 Elections proved that. Looking forward to 2008 and a change in how we the people are protected. We the people include the rest of our family which includes our cats and dogs.

To Dr. Annette,

It's hard to know what to think. Maybe it's a case of Wheat Gone Wild, or something.

Please check these out and let us know what you think.

This one has something to do with aminopterin being used as selection agent:

This one may just be a bunch of crazies, but they're talking about the tryptophan debacle, and how melamine is a trimer of cyanamide

Jonathan Says:

Thats right. Right now, it's like searching for a grain of sugar on a sand beach.

Basically, much of the Pet Food Industry has shifted to Junk Food Science.

Relying on hype, packaging, evangelism and gimmicks to get us to buy their stuff.

Dr. Annette,

I think we are beyond that, we had that BEFORE Menu Foods had actually done the INITIAL recall and we were feeding animals poison unknowingly.

Right now we are just looking into who we should go after next.

Dear FDA,

I was about to open this high-priced can of Nature's Variety canned cat food. According to the label it's made with tapioca and cottage cheese. Sounds real yummy, huh? The brochure says it's made with care.

So I spent about 3 days trying to find out WHERE it's made with care. Turns out it's made with care at MENU FOODS, but no one's seems to know which plant.

Maybe it came off the production line just behind some of that stuff that was recalled late this week. Gee, I hope they cleaned out their equipment real good.

Do you think it's safe to feed? Have you tested the brands that contain no wheat gluten, just to see if any cross contamination occurred? Are you sure you know where ALL the 792 metric tons of the tainted gluten went?
