People may want to try these fun, decorative pet food storage containers made by Stor In Style. Modern Cat just did a story on toxic containers and featured Stor In Styles pet food storage containers as a safe alternative to storing pet food. See the story at Moderncat.com or go to Storinstyle.com to place an order.

A great rule of thumb is to never purchase a bag of food that weighs as much or more than the pet you intend to feed it to.

Another good post by Itchmo.

Although I do not recommend feeding dry food to cats, it is important to store food, whether it' people or animal food, to properly maintain what quality it might have if any with commercial pet food.

A must read article about dry food for pets.

My wife makes stoneware "kibble keepers" at her job. These act the same as silica desiccants but are safe to place directly into the pet food.

I frequently buy the large bags of pet food to save money. Brands like Orijen and Eagle Pack are not exactly cheap. I divide it up into smaller amounts and vacuum seal each batch.

The Hill's website does not recommend freezing dry food, but I am not sure how much I trust their opinion on anything. Their reasoning is that it can attract moisture and mold. Maybe if the food was first vacuum packed then this spoilage might not be able to occur?

Thanks Itchmo, I didn't know food should be stored below 70 degrees either. Since I'm not purchasing commercial food any longer, glad storage isn't a concern.
