Sorry, the article forgot to mention it was a SEWING needle. It was lengh-wise along the seam of the reindeer and w/toy being plush, I did not feel it. Only when CandiCane & I were playing with & the seam coming apart, the sewing needle protruded and pricked my hand!

I purchased an organic toy-expensive from Whole Foods this past weekend, only to find out it was made in Indonesia I believe and assembled in China!!! How disappointing. Please share if anyone knows US companies that make organic toys, especially latex, my little bichon only plays with a little black sneaker for the past 2 yrs. I have purchased them as she rips holes in them. They are from Petco, did not test positive for lead (stick testers from Home Depot) but who knows what else could be in them!!??

Robert, I might counter that expensive doesnt mean its safe either. I dont think anyone here said cheap is safe. I have never purchased toys for my pet because they were cheap and could be bought in quantity.

We all wonder where to buy toys made in the USA now....yet we all were willing to by the cheap stuff from China. I think we have all learned we must be vigilant in safety regardless of the country of origin.....because sometimes the cheapest isn't always the safest. And just because we can buy a lot more of an item because it is cheap, doesn't mean that is the best or safest choice for our pets.

I would like to know what the toy was and where it was purchased. We all know if it was from China, it was dangerous. At least I hope we are all figuring this out.

Not only is this scary thinking of a dog getting injured or it's human adult owner but what if a child got punctured or ate it.

G in Indiana: thanks for the info. I didn't no there was metal in the middle of tug toys.

Watch out for the rope tug toys made in China as well. They have a piece of metal in the middle so the rope is "sturdier" and bends.

These folks were featured in a USAToday story on toys and other crap from China. The article said their business is going crazy because people are demanding toys made in the USA and they can barely keep up.

Janet, there was a place called Shurepets that indicated their toys are all US made but I havent checked it out yet for myself. Their site is http://www.catalog.shopshurepets.com/ if you want to check it out. Again, I dont know as I havent looked but this came from a previous article on Itchmo, someone had posted info about this pet toy place.

This scares the hell out of me. Every toy seems to be made in China and my dog loves squeaky toys. I always check them out too beore I give him a new toy. I wonder if there's lead in the paint? Does anybody know where you can get toys guaranteed to be made in the USA? This is happening in children's toys too and I wish they'd just stop importing things from China. It's all about making more money and if pets and people die, tough luck!!!
