The Anayas are devastated that their beloved six-year-old Pomeranian, Athena, has been found dead after being hit by a car. Athena went missing from a Ventura, California PetSmart while she was being groomed. Staff at PetSmart admitted that Athena was off-leash during the grooming appointment and she escaped out the main doors.

The company has vowed to compensate the couple for their loss.

Make it up to the couple? With money? They just don’t understand, do they?

  2. Debby says:

Sorry, Petsmart, there is NO WAY you can compensate these people for your gross negligence.

there is no amount of money or anything in this world that could even begin to compensate for the loss of your dog. It’s like your heart is ripped out of you when you lose your pet

  4. Stefani says:

You cannot “make it up” to somebody by giving them money.

THE ONLY appropriate response to this is a thorough, top-down, corporate crackdown on their operations, and show these people– and everyone else– that they are taking steps to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

It’s all about money, isn’t it?

What I want to know is HOW the dog escaped from the back of the store?
Are the grooming facilities all in the very back of the store like the one here where I live?

If so, then I dont understand HOW the dog made it all the way through the store and out the front door without being caught.
It just does not make sense. Its like part of the story is not being told or something.

Does anyone know more details about this story? If so, would you please explain it to me????

everyday in everyway i am so glad i’ve opted being mauled and scratched by my imperious grumpy himmie rather then drop her off anywhere to be groomed by strangers who clearly could give a blank.

i dont get how no one was watching an unleashed dog. the pet smart here has a glassed in grooming room that’s always closed- but you can look in and see them grooming the animals.

no one takes care of your pet or your children for that matter the way you do if you love them. ive also noticed people simply dont care about their jobs. the concept of pride in work well done and being reponsible for another creature’s life is lost on people. if i was left responsible for someone else’s dog id be running out that door after them.

  7. Groomer says:

Mittens: I would like to correct you in that there ARE many people who groom that love your pets and do everything in their power to assure that they are well-cared for when they are being groomed. Please do not classify all of us in the same category

  8. Beryl says:

I’ve used PetsMarts for years and had few problems. Some grooming departments are in he back of the store and others are in the front. Some groomers seem to genuinely care about the dogs and others don’t. I take a lot of time to interview my groomer and fire them when I find them sub par.

This situation is terrible and ITA w/Stephani. Petsmart needs to respond with their commitment to take steps to avoid a recurrence.
