Phillipines President Signs Anti-Rabies Act
The Phillipines President has signed the Anti-Rabies Act of 2007 to help aid with the control and elimination of human and animal rabies. A National Rabies Prevention and Control program will be formed which will include “mass vaccination of dogs, establishment of a central database system for registered and vaccinated dogs, impounding, field control and disposition of stray and unvaccinated dogs”. This act will also enforce the Animal Welfare Act of 1998 which prohibits the trade of dogs for meat.

This was some good news for a change. I was glad to here that the Phillipines are going to prohibit the trade of dogs for meat!! And that they are taking on the responsibility to protect from rabies!! I just hope more countries will do the same.

I don’t really like that ‘disposition of stray and unvaccinated dogs’ part–license to kill whatever/whenever.
