Apparently, it is all about monkey business this week. First, a man smuggled a pet monkey under his hat on an airplane. Now, a diaper-wearing monkey was on the loose in downtown Madison, Wisconsin.
It all started when a 20-year-old woman was walking by a popular nightclub. A man had his diaper clad pet monkey on a leash inside the club’s beer garden.
People walking by were petting the monkey. When the woman tried to pet the black and white monkey, he bit her. She suffered four puncture marks to her thumb, two on the top and two on the bottom.
The bite sent the woman to the hospital, where a doctor said the monkey should be found so that he could be quarantined to determine if he has any diseases. Immediately, the police went on a monkey search.
A couple hours later, the police were able to find the man and his monkey. But before animal control officers came to take possession of the monkey, the man lost a handle on the monkey’s leash, and the monkey got loose and escaped.
Madison Police issued a warning notice to the public about the foot-tall monkey with a long prehensile tail: “It is now on the lam, presumably still in the State Street area.”
About seven hours later, the monkey was captured and taken into custody to be quarantined for 10 days.
