I can not fathom the reasoning of those making excuses for the negligent owners of this dog.

I would think anyone with a working brain cell would act if a 110 pound snake was in the house.

The poor dog died a horrible and unnecessary death.

Why did they not call someone then? Why did they not find how the snake was getting in?

The story says the snake was approx 110 lbs. Where is everyone getting 50lbs??? The snake was 16 foot long. HELLO. Large, predatory reptile comes into your home on the hunt........REMOVE THE SNAKE FROM THE PREMISES. They are natural predators and anyone with half a brain would know that. The people who owned the dog are negligent and responsible for the dogs death and they must be intolerably ignorant.

If I found a snake in my house, I would get my 4 cats and me out of the house, and then hire someone to come in and kill it. That poor dog. Those people don't deserve to have another one.

The snake was not evil....just acting as nature meant for him to do.

Wild animals everywhere are being pushed off their land....re: the horrible elephant culling story.

I will say though that if it would have saved the dog....I would have killed the snake.

And YES...the owners were idiots....why and how does a 50 pound snake get in your house...and if it appeared to be stalking the dog...why not take suitable precautions for the dog?

"it’s just a sad story of what happens when wild animals come into urban areas."

Really? What I think you actually meant to say was:

"it’s just a sad story of what happens when urban areas encroach into wild animals habitats."

subtle difference!

I agree with Joan, i would have tried to save that dog no matter what happened to the snake.
I can't help feeling like they were trying to get rid of the dog......

The Mother should be prosecuted!

Possibly the people allowed the dog to be eaten by the snake? Maybe they didn't want the dog anymore? Any way you look at this, these people should be held responsible for this dog's death. By not using preventive measures, they effectively caused this poor pup's demise.

"Todd Rose, the manager of the zoo, said removing the half-swallowed dog could have harmed or even killed the python because the dog could have clawed the snake which would have caused internal damage."

and the problem with killing the snake and possibly saving the dog was??

if i saw that happening, sorry, no way woulod that snake be living right now.

And exactly how *do* you protect your dog from a snake? Inquiring minds want to know.

This isn’t bad parenting, it’s just a sad story of what happens when wild animals come into urban areas."

well, yeah, if i see a snake IN my house, near my dogs bed, i would assume it would come back. and yes, bad parenting, bad pet owners, and just plain stupid people.

what I don't understand is: the family knew that the dog was been watched by the snake. why in heaven's name did they not protect their poor dog. they are responsable for the dogs death and should have to answer for it.

I am sure 100% that I would have killed that snake. I know it was just being a snake. I don't know but the stupid people should have known that dog was prey for that snake. Linda I totally agree. that snake should have never been around that little dog. it makes me sick, Haze you said it all. how could the owner have thought that dog would be safe.

This was sad. I'm glad they are not choosing to kill the snake, though. It was just being a snake.

What an unfortunate accident.
