To Josh:
I apologize for saying chicken bone. I should have said chicken necks or for bigger dogs turkey necks-uncooked. You do not cook these. I have been feeding my cats these for breakfast for 8 years and not one of them has punctured any organs. I am not sure where you got you information from, but cats and dogs do eat small birds sometimes and I do not recall hearing that it killed them unless the bird had a virus that affected them.
My information is from my holistic/homeopathic vet, Dr. Pitcairns Natural Health for Dogs and Cats, Natural Nutrition for Dogs and Cats by Kymythy R. Schultze, C,C.N.,A.H.I.
You have to watch them for diarrhea because the animals system will not be use to such good stuff and will have to get use to it. One inch pieces work well to start and just watch the animal. Most will like this. Also, my cats only poo once a day because their system uses all the chicken neck so that helps in the kitty box cleaning department.
Conventional vets will not go for this because it means you are trying to make you cat and dog healthy to the point they won't make as much money from you. True holistic/homeopathic vets like not seeing you so much. They feel they have done their job right.

BR-Sorry I did not catch the sarcasm. I know awhile back the glycol stuff got swapped with glycerin, put in human toothpaste and some people, I believe in the Philippines died.

Thank you

Hi all -- I don't brush my pet's teeth, but good grief this is awful. My naturopath just told me last week, dont buy anything from China no matter what. I guess the paper clips I am going to buy will be okay if I wash them. I can hope anyway.

Did you read about the little beads for the kids to make crafts with? The Chinese put another product on them as a sealer, because it was cheaper. It turns into the date-rape drug when ingested from the beads or the sweaty little hands.

Well the grandkids found some little beads at the park last week and wanted to keep them. We had to insist they throw them all away and go wash their hands!!

I'm still not seeing anything on the PetEdge main page about this recall, or the FDA site.

That's a little, uh, disturbing, given the notice went out a couple of days ago.

people seem perplexed at the antifreeze being in these products( which of course it shouldn't be- it's poisonous to humans too) but it's really not as odd as it sounds in view of history. one of the reasons the FDA as we know it was formed out of an old relatively ineffective sort of mini lab that predated it was because of a rash of deaths associated with an entirely american made medication.

many pharmaceutical ingredients that need to be blended into say a cough syrup are not water soluable- which they need to be in order to be effectively compounded. to overcome this problem they experimented with members of the glycol family and found it highly effective when something wouldn't dissolve in water. they had no idea that what they ended up using- what we now know as antifreeze( this was i think the late 20s early 30s-it wasnt used as the common product as it is now but was a denzien of the chemistry lab. you dont want to know what was in a lot of those unregulated patent medicines and cosmetics of the time)- was deadly. children died. the man who helped formulate the product killed himself and the first food and drug act was passed forming the FDA as a distinct entity.

it would appear perhaps because of it's cheapness that the chinese are using antifreeze to dissolve compounds- it is in fact an industrial solvent- this would explain it's presence . that they're using it in things meant to be consumed by animals and humans is outrageously vile and does indeed, despite all it's girly whining, come under the FDA's mandate. that it's been largely found in products meant for animals has allowed them a giant loop hole .the laws governing animal feeds and pet foods are not as strict as for that meant for human consumption. but we know toothpastes and medications for humans have shown up on our shores with antifreeze in them. i fear a raft of humans are going to have to die-middle to upper class americans( as it seems poor people can be subjected to the dollar store antifreeze toothpaste and it was a mere , forgotten blip)- before something is done. it leaves me speechless-it's unconscionable- but such is the power of big business to flout laws, murder and turn a democracy into an autocracy dedicated to the f'ing dollar. i am largely a libertarian however when it comes to this sort of wanton disregard for aafety and life i have to say the government should be expected to go in and knock some damn heads and put an end to this insanity.

Yes... my comment that "The tube ingredients state nothing about anti-freeze" was meant as sarcasm. The tube ingredients do state 'glycerin' which is a solvent used to keep ingredients from getting too hard. I suspect that glycerin must cost more than diethylene glycol which is also a solvent. If so, once again... greed wins.

As for 'country of origin' labels... last I heard George was against them because he said they'd cost too much. Ghee... he wouldn't want to interfere with the China to U.S. trade deficit by informing consumers of where their products are coming from, would he? ... more sarcasm.

You know, this is really starting to infuriate me! This DAMN CHINA PROBLEM has gone on long enough! There are several other countries in the world, that would have HALTED IMPORTS IMMEDIATELY upon suspecting ANYTHING even MINOR!

Yet, USA still has their PORTS open, freely accepting all products. I'd like to SHOVE SOMETHING UP the PORTS!

I have also yet to see any pet food LABEL changes on canned food too. They get away with not putting "THE COUNTRY OF ORIGIN". If it's not made in USA, they don't have to put the country.

This is all INSANE! I want to give a BIG F U to all you money loving scoundrels out there, that don't care SHIT for our pets!

The diethylene glycol is not suppose to be in the toothpaste. That is why the recall is happening.I believe it is the main ingredient in antifreeze. It's sweet, that's why cats and dogs go for it. Couple drops and your cat could die and small dogs, also. This has been a problem for awhile in human toothpaste. I think it was the Philippines that 50 people died from this problem.
As for teeth cleaning, try mother nature. Give you cat and dog a uncooked chicken bone every couple days and they'll have spotless teeth. Be cautious, watch you animal to make sure they chew them right and check to see if they get diarrhea. If you are feeding crummy food the goodness of the bones may be too much for they depleted digestive systems.
I use to drive truck and these recalls are way worse than what we are lead to believe. Especially in food, chances are it is twice the amount than what is publicized.
Take care.

There is NOTHING as of now on the PetEdge.com website about a recall for this toothpaste. I find that curious. Our vet gave us this toothpaste this past summer after we had our dogs teeth cleaned. Fortunately, she hated tooth brushing so much so we gave up after a month. The tube ingredients state nothing about anti-freeze..... but does state that it is made in China. I'm done buying anthing made in China or with no country of origin clearly stated.

DO NOT RETURE OR TOSS RECALL PRODUCTS *EVER*!!!

Wonder why companies are so quick to tell us what to do with the tainted products? Which are worth pennies, basically? Because they are EVIDENCE!!!

I can't find this on the FDA site. Has anyone heard anyone else say anything about this yet?

Lemme guess, it'll get lost in the holidays like everything else did last winter.
