PET FOOD FORUM IN CHICAGO

Re Steve Says: April 18th, 2007 at 8:32 am

Amusing. They brought in an “Executive Coach” knowing full well that top level management in the pet food industry would welcome some paid allies to get them through this shake-up. I wonder what Break Through is going to tell their pet food clients. Hopefully, it’s that “the customer is always right.”

Wegie Mom,

I was making beef stew yesterday and wanted to use a can of beef stock, but when I looked on the label, it contained hydrolyzed wheat gluten so I didn't use it.

So I called Campbell's (800-257-8443) and asked them if they TEST their gluten. The nice lady assured me the stock was safe because the gluten came from Europe.

However, she couldn't tell me who tested it or when. Her script sounded just like what I've heard many times from pet food companies.

So I believe it would be a swell idea if FDA actually TESTED some human foodstuffs, just to make sure that ChemNutra's "human food grade" gluten didn't accidently get into people food.

Thanks for bringing that up again about the testing lab at Ims! I knew I wanted to post something earlier....and that was it.

If your description of abuse (and this recall) isn't enough to deter the purchasing of Ims, PETA has an undercover video on their website that might.

On the subject of Iams' credibility, I think it's very worth noting at this point that they have already been the subject of a boycott by PETA and others because they conduct cruel and deadly experiments on cats and dogs.

Yup, a pet food maker experimenting on pets. Stuff like this:

• Dogs and cats confined to small, barren cages, some for up to six years
• Dogs’ vocal cords surgically cut out so that they couldn’t bark
• Workers’ reports of a live kitten who was washed down a drain
• Kennels that were extremely hot in the summer and near freezing in the winter
• Dogs being force-fed vegetable oil through tubes inserted down their throats

See this link for more info:

For that reason, I don't trust Iams about anything.

To: Natural Balance, Joey Herrick, President

Dear Joey,

Can you please explain why your NUTRITIONIST was telling us that you test your food when you DON'T TEST your food. She sent me an email!

Do you have a Test Department? Do you have a Test Supervisor? Do you have a Test Technician? Do you even know what a test is?

Sounds like you maybe DELEGATED your QC responsibility to your contract company, DIAMOND.

That sounds familiar, doesn't it? Just like the big BRANDS delegated their QC responsibility to MENU foods. And Menu foods delegated their QC responsibility to ChemNutra, and ChemNutra delegated their QC responsibility to the China company.

Any then you have the NERVE to call your food a quality food. What you have is GARBAGE IN - GARBAGE OUT, same as MENU FOODS.

And then you put the rice junk in your food and didn't test it and didn't disclose the change????????????????How does THAT happen?

Just spare us the shock and awe because we already know that routine.

Joey, YOU'RE FIRED.

"Tuesday in some of its venison-based pet foods, company President Joey Herrick said.

"It was pretty shocking," he said in a phone interview after the company recalled several of its venison foods. "I was livid.""

I was just wondering about something I've posted a couple of times in the last week or so. The companies that have the contaminated RPC obviously know it.....could this be why somebody (obviously from the company or on orders from the company) was skulking around pet stores pulling bags of dry pet food & replacing with others?? I not only heard this locally but read a post from someone who works in a big national store (I believe was what they said) who claims she saw them pulling bags of dry food.

So if they test their food now, even though they were among the "big five" receiving the tainted RPC, their food is perfectly safe......because they removed the contaminant, made up new dry & pulled the old before anyone had a chance to test it. Their reputation is saved.....yeah, right.....fat chance. We know who you are & also know of people who lost pets to your dry food.....BEFORE you went in & pulled it off the shelves.

Ah, big business.

IAM's giving away free food is a joke and so is their promise.
My pet died after eating the dry food. So how does their promise relate to me. They can't bring back my dead pet.
I hope they are on the mysterious list of foods being tested. Wouldn't that be something that they are giving away this food and if they happen to be on the list.

Guess my calls and postings today had some effect. Go to the Science Diet website.
On the right side is an April 18 update saying their protein has no connection to the recalled one.

Maybe so but I don't have a lot of faith left these days.

I looked up the Chinese exporter of the rice protein concentrate, Binzhou Futian Biology Technology, through a google search. They appear to be a very large company. They offer a lot of gluten type products. All but one variety of the rice gluten I found listed on their web site was marked 'feed quality' or for livestock or animal feed only. They also sell wheat gluten, and several varieties of corn glutens. Their website claims they export a lot of products to the US and Europe. So, this may account for a lot of the unexplained problems we have been seeing with various brands of pet foods. We should be testing all incoming food and feed products!

Unfortunately the FDA only tests a little over 1% of imported food stuffs and a large amount of it is deemed unfit or contaminated. Did you know the FDA is scheduled for cutbacks in budget and test labs this year?

I think Americans should demand that all food products be labled as to country of origin. If it isn't labeled don't buy it!

It isn't that difficult to make your own pet food. It is insane for them to tell us that the only 'balanced nutrition' for your pets comes pre processed in a bag or a can.

Be careful, you and your pets lives depends on it!

Steve,

Yes, I agree, but I'm working on a project and have developed some contacts recently.

Some specific names and sources would be a help, if you have some. If not I'll look it up myself.

Just haven't had time as yet.

Thanks.

My thoughts exactly:

http://www.newswithviews.com/Richards/byron22.htm

"In a country whose constitutional moorings are in a state of decay, it is high time that our food supply, like our borders, be protected. Americans do not understand that our food supply is national security. We are allowing profit-driven efforts at globalization and harmonization to transfer the production of food out of America and make us dependent on food from other countries.

Reclaiming and protecting our food supply is fundamental to freedom, national security, and your health. The quality of our food supply has been in a constant state of decay since the FDA has been in charge. The easiest way to control any people is to control their food supply. The next easiest way is to keep the population sick and on drugs, especially mental health drugs. America is being set up to collapse from within and have no choice but to accept globalization-related control of our lives and future – upon threat of starving our citizens."

Can you find any China companies offering to buy degraded/contaminated grain products?

Why bother when they can just produce it? The whole countries polluted, toxic, degraded and contaminated. It's normal to them. Everything they grow, sell, and export is a toxic bio hazard. But it's cheap. And we all know about Corporate Americas new love affair with cheap.
