Since January 2006, Pennsylvania has identified 21 individuals with illness caused by a specific strain of Salmonella serotype Schwarzengrund. Many of the illnesses linked to this strain involve infants and young children, who are especially vulnerable to Salmonella infections.

I guess the FDA doesn't consider the illness and/or death of children to be important enought to do anything to prevent it. Maybe we should all have our children tested for salmonella poisoning at the same time they are tested for lead poisoning. Thanks George Bush.

I thought I read that Red Flannel was developed by Purina scientists.

So... PMI Nutrition is actually Purina Mills?

I guess Purina is all over:

http://www.testdiet.com
Test Diet is a part of Lab Diet, which is a Purina Mills LLC/PMI Nutrition International company (purinamills.com)

www.labdiet.com
Lab Diet - provides various foods, supplements, etc. to animal lab researchers

http://www.labdiet.com/indexlabdiethome.htm
Here's a reference to the pet food recall - says for media inquiries, contact Land O' Lakes corporate office

Red Flannnel is (was) made by PMI Nutrition :

http://www.pminutrition.com/rf_brand.html

Looks like Mars Petcare may have been doing some quiet purchasing in the last few months. I have not found any buyout info as of yet.

ITCHMO: Can we start a new thread in the forums about the "new pet foods/old brands" that have been coming out recently. Maybe I'm uninformed, but I'd never heard of Red Flannel or the other recalled food.

Since June, we've known that pet food companies are trying to reinvent themselves and distance themselves from the poisonings by coming out with "new" products and definitely new packaging.

Can we name the name of the food, the brand, and what company manufactures it?
<strong>
ITCHMO ADMIN: </strong> Please feel free to add a thread in the Cat Food and Dog Food Experience area. Members can always add threads in the forums. Thanks!

Have you seen THIS pile O crap?

http://www.avma.org/onlnews/javma/sep07/070901s.asp

How DARE that damned Steve Dale, in the pocket of pet food, weasel that he is talk like that?

How DARE the vets-THE VETS- not get after the lack of media coverage of the symptoms, the lies and the cover up and the FREAKING FACT THAT POISON IS STILL KILLING!!!??
Not a freaking word-just more of the good ole boy backslapping while they toss off the casual "there is long term renal damage" in the SURVIVORS, there sure is, and expensive damage in money and tears it is too. Was there a FREAKING word about getting those bills paid?? Was this a hot concern for the VETS? Nah, one more time , the vets had a big fat chance to stand up for the pets and the people who have suffered so much and there they sat.

I am so offended and appalled.

And of course from the "Back against the Wall" Department.

Aug 22 8:27 AM

China said Wednesday it had found pesticides, poisonous weeds, and dirt in shipments of imported U.S. soybeans, and a toy industry representative said U.S. manufacturer Mattel Inc. was partly to blame for lead tainting that caused massive toy recalls.

Kathy,

NO! It just keeps getting worse and worse. The U.S. doesnt care about our safety. They just care that China will suffer if they dont continue to trade with them regardless of what they are sending us.

Melamine, Cynauric Acid, Lead, Salmonella, Botulism, Acetaminophen

What's next?

Print and post the flyers from Don Earl's site. Never leave your house without several, I keep a stack in the car so I always have them handy.

http://www.petfoodrecallfacts.com/active.html

Call into radio talk shows, speak to somebody new today, the simple question "Do you have pets?" will find many, MANY people who want the truth and the news.

Call your local TV stations and email them the links to the new recalls. If the TV station does not respond then file a complaint here
http://tinyurl.com/gc48v

All television stations MUST, by law, serve the public interests.
If they do not serve you, the public, serve them up a few complaints.
This is your right.

If you called and emailed and the TV news did NOT cover the pet food recall and the new development news, then you have a valid complaint.

good call mittens. I would not be at all surprised, considering the 'high standards' of the petfood industry. The opposite is also possible: Big name buys a brand people know, then fudges on the ingredients. Consumers think they know what they're buying, or that the product is better under new mgmt. And of course, the buck seems to stop at a different place...... just a big shell game. But no longer a game. Family pets are dead. Consumers are wising up. No more cheating and lying as usual. No more dodging responsibility.
