The arson thing... insurance companies often will not reimburse a claim if the fire is caused by arson. Folks who lost homes better read their policies and may be in for quite a shock if their fire was an arson related blaze.

It really disturbs me to learn that not one, but two, arsonists are suspected to have been involved in these fires. They have destroyed more lives than they will ever know, and we can't even know the environmental impact of losing those thousands of acres of trees too. The worst of punishments is what should await them. We cannot afford to have such people on the planet.

A lot of lessons were learned from Katrina. Californians DEMAND that our pets are included in evacuation plans. And they came through for us.

Did anyone see the tv news clip of the police officers and animal control personnel rounding up two llamas and a pregnant pig and taking them to safety? Awesome!

I still have a hard time digesting how people could leave pets behind.

Heartfelt thanks to everyone who allowed our critters to come with us.

GOD BLESS the shelters and the people responsible for understanding and accepting the beloved pets with their people! This is the way it was meant to be. All Gods creatures under one roof and sharing beds when it has to be.

So nice to see this story making Itchmo headlines. Please folks include in your emergency kits for pets walking "shoes" and "masks" and something to cover them entirely, protect their fur...name a disaster that DOESN'T come with "toxins" - which will stick to fur and they'll lick. What works is moist gauze over noses and pawses, pillow cases to stick them in so they can hide yet smell you. Also, they will go shocky and dehydrate, and won't drink,so MAKE your vet show you how to subq fluids and stick some of that in your kit. Course that's for when you really are fleeing crap.
