Rescued Dogs From Pet Shop Find Homes

50 puppies were rescued from a Santa Ana, California pet shop last month. They were dehydrated and suffering from respiratory infections and other health problems.
Last Friday, the Orange County Animal Care Services announced they would be putting the 50 puppies up for adoption during the weekend.
Hundreds of people came to the shelter to give the puppies loving homes. At least 100 people showed up early for the adoption event and were waiting in the parking lot for the animal shelter to open.
There were so many people that showed up to adopt the puppies that the animal shelter had to use a lottery system to pick winners. Each and every one of the puppies found a new and caring home.
Four cats, a rabbit, and a guinea pig that had been taken from the pet store also found new homes.
Twenty other dogs at the animal shelter, not from the pet store, found homes at the adoption event.

Phew! Another story with a good ending!
I so glad all the pups and more found homes. Animal people are good people.

I’m proud to say that we have a lot of compassionate “animal people” in Orange County, Ca. Of course, it wasn’t always that way.

I wish there were more.

And its really nice that some of the people who didn’t get to adopt the puppies adopted other animals from the shelter.

I am very happy for these pups, obviously. But so many adopters still seem to be thinking that pet shop “purebreds” are superior to the “mutts” waiting everyday in shelters to find their forever homes. I bet a lot of the mutts are actually healthier, too.

Most pet shop pups are hyphenated designer dogs; ie. mutts.
I love it when demand is greater than supply. :o)

So fantastic that this number of dogs found loving homes that were already in the shelter. Those poor puppies from the pet shop. I wonder what hellish puppy mill they came from. That should be followed up on and then steps taken to shut it down.

I hope the pet shop was fined and/or shut down?
