An old vet I knew said that people would ask him about things their senior citizen cats and dogs were doing and say, "they've never done this kind of thing before." His reply was, "well, they've never been 80 years old before, either!"

I had a neutered female Siamese who was 22 when she died. She had one fang left, and kitty Alzhiemers. I'd have to feed her little teaspoons of soft canned food off and on all day, and sit and remind her what she was supposed to be doing when her mind wandered off. But she was otherwise healthy, no kidney, heart or any other troubles. She finally just died peacefully in her sleep, curled up in her little bed on one end of the sofa, which was a blessing for us both.

Hello everyone, and thank you for taking the time to comment on my musings.

Oliver, you sound like my kind of guy! My personal assistant tries to keep me on a strict diet these days, but the other staffers seem to have a more relaxed attitude, and I get a clandestine lick of my favorite things from time to time. As I recall, eleven is a wonderful age and I hope you're enjoying it.

Nora, Toonces sounds very fetching. The Stupid Baby was a feral too, and he still has his idiosyncracies, but he's a decent sort... don't tell him I said so, though, or he'll get cocky, and there's nothing worse than a cocky underling.

Bridgett, I have a pretty good staff, but sometimes they can be too fuss-budgety. Sometimes I need to remind them that I am not in a contest to be the world's oldest cat, but would prefer to be among the world's happiest.

Merlin, I'm glad you like my articles, and I have a lot to say so new ones should be forthcoming on a fairly regular basis. It takes my personal assistant a long time to transcribe them though, so I hope you'll be patient with us.

I love these articles, I hope you keep having the staff submit them Rochester. Mikey says he might like jelly doughnuts, but all his staff bring home are glazed and chocolate, and he thinks the doughnut part tastes great. Mikey also admits to a fondness for prunes and dried apricots.

I am glad your staff is so vigilant about your health and wellbeing. Badness is only 8, middle aged, I guess, but she is doing great!

My old girl "Toonces" is about 17 or so and she is a grey striped with white socks, chest and blaze. She has always been tiny and small boned since the day I found her in the woods almost starved to death and her eyes had not turned from blue yet (under 5 weeks old) and she was all alone. She has been with me through one husband(ex) and various dating and mating partners......good ole Toonces. She has seen it all. She was a huntress beyond compare in her day and she kept the old farm house of her youth free of all vermin and bugs! She definitely earned her keep in the old school sense and helped teach many a child and grandchild respect for animals. Her biggest joy was to help me in the garden in the day and hang out there at night to chase the bunnies away. Her one snack passion is potato chips! Although they are a little too rich now for her tummy in her golden years.

Oliver says: I too love spaghetti sauce. Also tomatoes. Also jelly doughnuts from Dunkin' Donuts--I've trained my assistant to let me lick the jelly off her fingers, and this works well--but they're going to be changing their recipes to eliminate something called "trans fat" so who knows if they'll still be a favorite of mine. Congrats on your longevity. I'm 11 years old--still a youngster, IMO.
